Default Unhealthy Weight Loss T.V Shows

(Inspired by the bulging brides thread)

Arghh. I am so over this.

I'm sick of seeing weight loss shows on TV that promote unhealthily fast weight loss, excessive exercise, vomiting after exercise and bingeing.

I was watching The Biggest Loser last night and I know they have always done this but hate the stupid games they play for immunity or weight loss advantages. Last night they were offering an extra kilogram of weight loss in the weigh in for the person who consumed the largest amount of calories.

How is this healthy? This is making the contestants develop unhealthy relationships with food and possible future eating disorders.

    This just really annoys me

I knew there was a reason I don't watch tv too much anymore.

Everytime I see one of the weight loss infomercials or tv shows, my old demons dealing with eating disorders raises itself into my brain and I have to fight to put back into the box.

As for healthy, no it isn't.

Yeah it just annoys me so much that the biggest loser promotes binge eating by giving the contestant an advantage at the weigh in if they binge the most.

Like seriously, WTF are they thinking??

I never saw them binge on the Biggest Loser, but I did miss some episodes. The ones I saw were pretty cool, and they got some amazing results. I thought they were just doing amped up diet and exercise.

I guess since I don't know what it is like to have an eating disorder it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. In fact, the people all seem a million times better off now that they are at healthy weights. The trainers seemed to emphasize healthy eating and exercise. I never saw them do anything that seemed too extreme.

I'm just refering to the 'bingeing' being the temptations to get immunity or a weight advantage by consuming a larger amount of food. It's probably not even seen as a problem for most people, I think I just get annoyed by it because I've struggled with ED's.

I do think the 'concept' of a lifestyle change is very positive, just at times I don't think the whole 'extreme' mentality is the healthiest one.

I'm not going to lie, I have an ED and I like it. Restricting and being small works wonderfully for me; I definitely am not interested in "recovery". And I've got to say, shows like Biggest Loser are great triggers--inspiration not to eat, or to go work out harder.

So I can see how those shows might be a mindfuck for someone who doesn't want that lifestyle and is trying to get out.
