    Default First Seder...good menu?

I have 6 people attending and one is a gluten free vegan so I have:

a vegtable pasta bake with tomato sauce. The pasta is rice macaroni, so is gluten free.

a giant roast chicken, not sure of the filling yet... thinking apples and celery?

Also have potato pancakes (gluten free) and vegan hummus.

    And matzo ball soup.

my charoset is walnuts, almonds, pomegranite, apples, grapes, wine, orange juice and lemon juice

I have the Seder plate. The bone, the boiled eggs (one for everyone - except vegan, who's getting an egg-shaped piece of matzo, gluten free).

    Matzo...

No dessert but might be making a vegan gluten free almond meal cake.

    Sound good? Or need more?

I'd make a veggie, to go with the chicken/pasta. And I'd add a salad, to round it off and lighten the meal. I always try to make a salad when I serve somethnig big, it helps me eat less of the higher calorie stuff.

Oh oh oh... I made a seasoned vegetable bake as well. Potatos and asparagus and other greens...

    But I'll make a salad!

    I pretty much wing it

But it has some type of nut, usually more then one- hazelnuts, pinenuts and walnuts, fresh in shells, if possible- 1/2 to 1 cup TOTAL- chopped. Diced apples- maybe 4 if they're large. I like the tart ones. orange juice, lemon juice- maybe 2 tbsp of each... or less. Some red wine- or even blueberry if I have it- a 1 cup or more, depending on color and texture. lots of Cinnamon, of course, and honey- a dark honey is my fave- 2 tbsp I guess. If I have dates, I chop a generous handful and add them, as well as a bit of grated ginger (fresh!). A half handful each of rehydrated rasins, dried aricots and dried figs (I soak them in the wine), and a pear or two if I have them. a 1/2 tsp cyanne rounds things off. Then I mix and taste it, and I may add something.. more apples perhaps- for texture, or more honey.

mine is nothing like my mothers- it's a lot more ingredients and more diverse- plus a little bit of spicy, from the cyanne.

But I love it! I'm so hungry for it now, I may make a run to the store tonight

    Are your guests kosher?
I only ask because if they are Ashkenazi Jews the rice pasta and hummus is a no-go.

None of my guests are even Jewish, seeing as my kitchen hasn't been made kosher. So even though my food is passover approved kosher, my food will technically not be - so no one from my synagogue would go.

We are having a Seder meal at my church this Sunday, and I'm going. I'm excited, because I've always wanted to be a participant in a Seder. It is a Lutheran church, by the way. But I have a question--do I need to wear a hat?

I hope nobody thinks I am being disrespectful and facetious--I really want to know.

    Thanks for your patience.

    charoset!! charoset!!!

    thank you thank you.

I had that delish food at last year's passover and couldn't remember what it was called for the life of me. I've spent the past forever trying to figure it out!

All I had to go on was that the word reminded me of cous-cous.

    no.

it's a religious thing to cover your head. You're going to a very pobably non-kosher (I'd guess) sader at a church. I'd think it's probably hosted by a reformed rabbi maybe? They do saders with churches around here too.

It's wierd to me, but hey, have fun.

you can get transliterated stuff, so you can read the english. i think though that doing it in English for a seder full of folks who aren't Jews is absolutely OK. next year you should check out a full-out seder in hebrew and all that. hell if you lived nearby I'd SOOO invite you to mine, I love my seder!!! LOVE!

    Love it!

I learned ONE hebrew song. I tried really hard.

But the Jews won't even come to my Seder.

Why do I even fucking try?

I just want to make things special.
