Thank you. I just had to get it out and it stresses my husband out when i cry about it so i don't feel like stressing him out before he has to go to work.
You can get Fraxel laser resurfacing and reverse a lot of cosmetic sun damage all over your body. I'm getting it on my face.

^^ yeah im looking into that kid of stuff , I am more worried about melanoma i guess i just have a gut feeling that it's going to happen and I freak out.

My anatomy/physiology teacher explained to the class that each one of us has a certain amount of UV rays that our body can take in without any problems. Some ppl can stay out all their lives, while others start having problems after only so many years of constant sunbathing.
He told us that he has always been a deep sea fisherman, and got loads of sun every summer. He said that he started getting (bad) moles and whatnot in his 40's.
He said that after you start having problems, you have to be very careful to keep covered when out in the sun. It seemed he was saying that you can stop this from happening anymore as long as you are careful.
Best of luck to you!

that's true^ and i have been careful for about 2 years so far, but it seems like all of it is hitting me nowHopefully there will be a point when it will stop.

Ah, I see.
So sorry that you're having to deal with this....

Thanks for posting this.
And while melanoma is horrifying, you *probably* won't have it. Even if you do get skin cancer, there are several types. Both my dad and grandpa had basal cell sarcinoma (I think) and it was barely even a problem.
*hugs* Keep monitoring

Start wearing at least SPF 30 everyday without fail. Get facials. Yes, the damage might is there but make sure you are seeing your doctor regulary and from now on, start taking care of your skin. I'm only 24 but I stopped tanning completely a year ago at 23 and already notice a huge improvement in my skin. The freckles have actually faded and some disappeared altogether. I was also shocked at how much tanning ruined and aged my skin but some of the damage can be reversed.
ISS is totally right. As long as you keep getting checked out regularly by your dermatologist, you should catch any suspicious growths before they become malignant. And the cosmetic affects can really be taken care of! Sunscreen, drink lots of water, and talk to your dermatologist about medical facials, peels, and laser treatments. You will be ok!

Sorry, I can understand why you're sad. Definitely check your body often for moles or spots that change, and see a dermatologist once a year (or how ever often they recommend). I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry too much. You'll be okay. And stay out of the sun from now on.

I see so many cute young girls with the darkest of dark leather looking tans and it makes me really sad for them. You can see the aging already even in their mid 20s. I make just as much money as they do if not more than the tanning addicts and I don't bake myself into Donatella Versace-ness to do it. Tans are not necessary! And yes they can be very dangerous.
I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I'd say keep getting the moles and spots checked by a doctor and use lots of sunscreen when you go out in the sun. Or stay out if it altogether if you can help it. I do think we need about 5 minutes of sunlight daily on our faces and hands to get a proper amount of vitamin D but that's about it.
also look into stuff that scavenges free radicals-- vitamin C and coconut oil I believe do that.
I know this helps limit some of the damage... I think even way afterwards.
also, use ground up aspirin for a mini facial. I think that might help a little too but for different reasons.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Hang in there, and at least you know that tanning is bad and you have stopped. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think skin cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer if you do have it, but I'm sure you're alright.![]()
Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends.- George Bernard Shaw
I live in tropical weather and most of the people here live on the beach but I've never gone tanning. I wear spf in my makeup and try to preserve my skin as much as I can, but I use self tan lotion religiously. I got through like a bottle every couple weeks so I stay looking tan. Nobody knows it's fake.
My father and Aunt both were diagnosed with Skin Cancer. My father has been clear for 2 years, with regular testing. He worked in the sun with no shirt, and loved the beach when we were little. He finally went to the doctor to have a mark on his face looked at and that is when they found the cancer. They caught it in time, and that is the key. He is in his sixties...much older than anyone here. I am sure you have nothing to worry about. Just always get checked out when a mole or mark changes its form. GL
i had two skin cancer places removed last year. it wasnt melanoma and the treatment wasnt bad. the downside? i'm prone to get more for the rest of my life. i too stopped tanning two years ago. born and raised in florida, i'm sure you know how much time i spent in the sun. of course in my 20's and 30's i thought it could never happen, spent days at the beach and in the tanning bed year round. i firmly believe it was the the tanning bed not the sun.
you are probably fine and it is one of the lesser cancers like i had.
