    Default A question for renters

    Hey,

My fiance and I are in the process of trying to find an apartment right now in a new city. He's a bartender and I'm a dancer so we've bee having trouble as he doesn't have verifiable source of income in this city yet (hard to get a job without an address!) and I would prefer not to disclose that I dance.

So to dancers that rent, how did you deal with this? I know some clubs have a special business name you can put on applications like this and it will appear you're a waitress or something similar. Has anyone here actually disclosed that they were strippers? I'm curious how that would go.

I was straight-up with my landlord; he gave me a funny look for a second, like did she really say that? and then we went on with our conversation, and I got the house.

I suppose I could have said I waitress at my club or whatever, but I didn't want to get caught in a lie and lose my chance that way. Luckily, this landlord didn't care that I dance. My best friend was honest too and got the house she wanted.

I suppose it's a risk either way, but I chose to be honest and it worked for me.

Our last place in L.A., I told the landlord I was a dancer. He didn't bat an eyelash. This current place, I just didn't feel like it and they were more interested in K's income anyway, so I just told them I was a freelance writer and they were fine with that.

Our landlord knows I dance. He is actually younger than we are - he's 22 or 23 if I remember correctly. And he's somewhat in awe of that fact.. lol. I think he likes us just that much more. I've shown him sexy photos from my modeling career, too. Not nude, just sexy. It's pretty funny to have my landlord in awe of my "dress-up" self.

Can someone co-sign for you? When I moved to a new city, and didn't have a job yet, I showed them I had enough money to pay rent for the entire term of the lease, and they turned me down. I ended up renting in a small complex with no property management company. They accepted me because my credit was good. Until you get an apartment, you could use a PO Box on your applications.

Yeah... I'd like to know this too. I have little data on verifiable incomez.

I've applied for two different places independently (not student housing or moving in with bf) and both times I've just said I'm a dancer and make approximately (x) a month. It's been no problem.
