Does anybody here use lip stains? I think some for the summer would be nice, but I went to the store and didn't see ANY. How long do they stain for? And do your lips stain evenly where you apply it?

I've used one that I got from target (Sonia Kushak - or w/e her name is - brand) It lasted for a long time and it applied evenly. It was a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, it sorta dried my lips out.
How long is a long time? Generally speaking, I mean?
I've been curious about these for a while as well.

Yeah, me too.
I like the idea of a lip stain because I'll be able to eat and drink and still have color, I hope. Sounds low maintenance once you've got it on.

I used a lip stain only once. I don't know if it's alcohol based or something but it dried out my lips horribly. Plus it looked weird and splotchy.....
I didn't try it with a lip gloss on top... it could work. Let us know how it goes.
Yep, stains can be drying and make lips look thinner while gloss makes them look fuller. I prefer a nice gloss.

What makes them dry? I know long lasting lipsticks dry lips out, but why do stains?

I think long lasting = dry when combined with the Lip area. I dunno what chemicals they use to make that stuff stay on but it doesn't agree with my pucker.
It's a compromise... either you get stuff that lasts for a hot second but feels really nice or get dried out grandma lips and avoid reapplying lip color.

Permanent lipsticks don't work on me anyway. I'm going to try what Exotica said tomorrow though. Wish me luck!
I have a lip stain from Bourjois I bought from Sephora a couple of months ago. It lasts a long time and has a little brush so I think it applies really evenly. It has two sides and the other is a gloss so it doesn't stay on dry.
I really like using Benefit's Benetint, it is dryin so i always use a chap stick over it and it gives a really nice healthy flush to the lips.
Clinique dies a great Barely There sheer lipstick called Black Honey, looks very dark and scary in the tube but has a really nice see sheer berry tint when appplied to the lips.

I didn't find it in Target.![]()

HOW DID I READ THIS THREAD TITLE AS POOP STAINS HOW?!
I used to use them until I stained everything but my lips.

Shit. Should I wear gloves??
You could always visit a tattoo artist and have them done permanently.
I believe Dawn Whitham specializes in makeup tattoos.

I need something a little more versatile lol.![]()
I've been on a long-term search for a good lip stain. The best one I've found is by Nars. I wear it over lip liner and top it off with lip gloss. It doesn't really stain worth a fuck, but that's because I put the gloss over it. If I put it on by itself I think it would stay on, but it would be terribly dry.
The Benefit and other stains listed here are ok for a tiny amount of color, but I haven't found them to be long-lasting.

Revlon (I think) makes one called Just Bitten. Dont know if its still available. I dont know why so many girls have bad experiences with them, they work fine for me. Dont dry out my lips, dont make them look weird, doesnt burn on. My only complaint is that due to the nature of the product, you can only get bright shades. It is totally matte, so I just use a lighter color gloss on top. I wouldn't recommend using stain alone-maybe thats why so many girls dislike it. I apply the stain, let it dry completely, then use a non-petroleum jelly or oil based gloss. You have to play with the glosses you have to see which ones will take off the stain and which wont. Then after you eat your gloss off (me-under 5 mins flat) your lips still have some color to them!
As an aside, Ive bought the long wearing "glosses" by maybelline and revlon. They are like the long wearing lipsticks from a few years back. I dont like how they feel on but they do come in lighter colors, unlike stain.
I bet I can make my own stain out of koolaid lol

lol. Even if it worked I dunno what kind of container I could put it in (liquid).

Benetint hands down! So versatile too, you can use it on cheeks (and I think they advertise for eyes too, but I personally think red colors for eye makeup look weird).
this may sound a bit strange but i have been using powdered peach and strawberry jello mix as a lip stain for years. i mix them together dry and then dip a wet lip brush into the mix and paint it on. its a bit bright at first but with a few yumming kisses it is the perfect shade. i then top it with a light coat if chap stick then a gloss with gold shimmer in it. its perfection! kind of a russet gold look.

Where do you keep it? Or do you mix it fresh every single time (too much hassle for me)
