Default Getting someone off car loan

About six months ago I bought a car with my friend as my cosigner (we were good friends, would do anything for each other). Anyways, shit hit the fan and he threatened to take the car away from me. I called the car loan company and they told me he was the primary owner with me as just the cosigner (i was under the assumption it was the other way around at the dealership) and could do with it what he pleases. I can't carry the loan by myself (too young, not enough credit, no taxes paid....i know i know....) so it is stuck like this. I realize I got myself in a predicament (i don't want to hear im stupid i already feel that) but i was wondering if there is any way i could prevent him from either repo'ing it or selling it?

well, who's name is it titled/registered under?

the only other thing you could do would be to refinance the vehicle, and you may need another co-sgnee to do this as you state.

Essentailly, you need to buy out the other person's interest in the vehicle.

First of all you're not stupid... I've been in wierd financial situations myself.

Whose name is the registration on the car in, to start with?

I just got my vehicle registration renewal notice and it is mailed to "His Name or My Name". So I'm guessing both? Correct me if I am looking at the wrong thing and please point me in the right direction as to where to look/who to call.

That just sounds weird to me. Generally a car is registered to one person or another even if they are married... ya know??? I would call the DMV for starters, altho I know that's a pain in the ass. But they could probably assist you the best. Sorry girl it just sounds weird. I had a cosigner for my last car loan but the registration was in my name....
