Default what was my club thinking??

okay... i get into work around 4pm yesterday (when we open) and i was in the dr getting ready. another girl who was there asked me, "have you seen the new girl?" i'm like, "no..." and she just laughed. really meanlike. so i wasn't sure what was going on...

i had to go on stage first, and i KIND OF saw the new girl, but i don't wear my glasses when i dance so i couldn't make out details. so after i get off i sit with a customer. that's when the new girl went on stage. she had a very very lean body, she looked freshly 18... she had buck teeth and coke bottle glasses. the guy i was sitting with snarked, "does she have down's syndrome or something??" and i said, "are you serious?" i thought he was being an ass because she was slightly lesser than cute... but then i asked the dj.

    she IS mentally retarded.

i had nothing but love for her because i felt her family had made her work there because they didn't want to work. call it a hunch. she asked me if i would do her makeup, and if she could hang out with me.

i felt like crying to myself. this guy pulled her into the corner and i could imagine the "game" he was spitting at her.

eventually my boss told her she had to go. when she called her uncle he refused to come get her.

    that shit was heart wrenching.

Wow. That's intense. Did she get home alright as far as you know? Who actually hired her? You seem to have been the only dancer to have talked to her. Was she pretty mentally cognizant or did she obviously seem more limited? Did you ever find out her reasons for being there?
A few years ago, I worked with a girl who looked like she may have had really mild down's syndrom but she could work like crazy. Amazing hair, great body, just a little different in the face. I'm not saying it can never happen but there may be some ethical implications to a club hiring differently abled dancers.

Wow!! Not only is that awful, but is that even legal???? It doesnt sound like she has the mental capacity to know what she was doing. Fucking disgusting people piss me off....like guys that would try to take advantaqe of a person with downsyndrome??

That is so sad, I can't handle stuff like that. I probably would have had to just go home. Sorry you had to be a part of that and I hope that girl is okay.

i was really busy so i didn't get to see if she got home okay. i hope she did.

i have no idea WHO hired her. but she could swing around the pole... i was suprised seeing as it was her "first" time on stage ever.

her mental state seemed very young... like 7-12 ish.

when she was waiting for her ride she said, "my uncle can't come get me because he's cooking... so when i get home i'm gonna starve myself to get him back!!"

i just don't know what to think honestly. i'm blank about it.

If this isn't illegal, it's most definitely unethical. Wow.

I can't believe someone thought that taking advantage of a person with disabilities like that was at all appropriate. This business is always on the receiving end of criticism about ethics and morals, and stuff like this doesn't help!

It makes no sense to me why anyone would hire someone who had any sort of problems of that nature. What a shame that someone actually let her do this.

I'm actually wondering if it was less a "let her" and more "make her" situation. :-(

What was her fucked up family thinking? How could they send someone with a 12-year-old's mental capability to work in a strip club?

Call SOMEONE about this. Child protective service may be able to get you in touch with someone who would be able to handle this. It has to somehow be illegal. She is not mentally capable of making this kind of decision for herself.

If she's mentally incompetent, she would be.

I worry that the family may try to prostitute her or make her go to a divier club where guys basically use her as a prostitute.

yes, since mentally retarded people are not functioning at the same level as their age. this is why guys go to jail for having sex with 24 year old girls who have the mental capacity of 10 year olds (as an example). there are legal protections for girls like her.

    ahh gotcha.

see, i felt like her family was doing that (pimping her out, in a way). makes me so sad. the way that asshole was talking to her and cornering her... she was smiling so big too... it was probably one of the only times someone told her she was pretty. i didn't hear what was said but come on.. we know it when we see it. or rather smell it when it's near. *bullshit*

ps: i do work in one of the smaller clubs in town... she did say that she went to the trashiest of the trashy first though. they didn't hire her, so i dunno. and if anyone's worked at the gold club in beaumont, she said she's headed there next. i doubt they will hire her, but still...

That's really sad, what both the club and her family did. I hope somewhere along the way she gets some sort of protection as mentioned above. Really there's only one word to describe this situation: SICK

that depends how old she is. do you have to be 21 there? bc (in md, at least) after 21, the family would have to have gone to court to get custody of their own child. if they don't do that, the person is basically on their own.
