    30th Birthday Ideas ?

It's not til after Indy which means late October/early November.

Yet I'm tossing around ideas now so that I will have the $$ when it does happen....

    * Go to New Zealand for a week long (7 nights or longer) holiday - do white water/rapids rafting and/or a sky dive ON the actual day of my birthday and/or hot air ballooning whilst also being a tourist. Have no idea which cities or places to visit yet.

Note: I have never ever been to New Zealand.

    * Go to Las Vegas again for the min. 5 night stay (it's a visa requirement thing that the visit must be a min. of 5 nights and the cost would mean I wouldn't be able to afford to stay for a whole week).

I went to Las Vegas back in 2002 or 2003... so it's been AGES and I loved it there.

    * Go to somewhere else in the USA for a min. 5 night stay (have not been back to the US not counting my Las Vegas trip since 1994 - whatever place is suggested must NOT be a cold type of climate that time of year! I STRONGLY dislike the cold.)

    * Go back to Darwin and actually check out some of the National Parks and be a tourist instead of like my previous visits (where I was working and missed out on being a tourist) for 5-7 nights.. I have a couple of friends up there so I won't be "alone" and I really like Darwin.

    * Go to Cairns for 5-7 nights .. no friends however last time I was there I enjoyed it - http://cairnsinfo.com/

    * Stay home (Gold Coast) and be a tourist in my own home - rent out room in a hotel/resort then http://www.verygc.com/things_to_see_...adventure.html - hot air balloon, sky dive and the shooting academy (never EVER shot a gun in my life!) and then there are the restaurants here as well as doing things like Dreamworld, Moviewold, Seaworld, Australia Zoo, Wet N Wild (all the theme parks which I have NOT done in what seems forever).

I'm determined to spend a good couple of grand on this as I have been soooooooooooo looking forward to my 30th birthday for many years and want to make damn sure it doesn't become a fizzle like previous birthdays (last few years have been easily forgettable - nothing special).

North or South Island predominately? Any specific places/cities/towns ? Just hire a van and drive everywhere I need to go ( http://www.wicked-campers.co.nz/ ) ?

Visit Anchorage, Alaska. You'll be candy and what could be more fun than that?

Lol, believe me, those guys will be more than happy to do all the work..

As far as being cold... well with all the volunteers around to keep you warm, that might not be a problem.

I'll second the NZ plan. I've never been there, so I've got no suggestion on what area would be better.

Yeah, another vote for New Zealand here. If you were in the States I'd vote to party in Vegas. I think it's way too far to fly for 5 days.

    I wouldn't do the national parks. You're only turning 30 not 60.

It's not too far to fly because I wouldn't normally do so for any other reason thus it would be a "special occasion" as such and worth every moment to me no matter where I ended up being...

As for the National Parks, I regard this as something special for me to do as I don't normally do it and find National Parks (hiking, sight seeing, etc) as relaxing and invigorating for me.

Go to New Zealand and have a proper holiday. That sounds awesome for a memorable 30th birthday.

What would you do in Vegas? If you want to party, Vegas is a great place to do it. If you want to celebrate the milestone in a unique or meaningful way I think NZ or the National Park is the way to go.

No matter what you decide, I think you'll have a great time. I'm planning a big trip this year too, and your thread is getting me all excited.

Well if you were going just a little sooner there is the "15th Exotic Dancer Gentlemen's Club Owners Expo" August 24-27. You might be able to write that off as a business trip.

    New Zealand!
Btw, check the flights now - I found some for around $100 last week. This is before tax but still tax probably wont be that much.
I would say skip Auckland. I havent dont the South island yet but I loved Wellington as you know! You could probably afford to visit a few places and see a whole lot of the country - its VERY beautiful!!!

I'd go to New Zealand in a heartbeat if I had the money. But it is close enough to you that you might be able to do it "any time." The longer trip to Vegas MIGHT be a "once in a lifetime" trip, and a lot of your friends here could meet you and give you a gosh-wow party.

I wouldn't go to NZ again. I didn' really enjoy it very much. I went to Auckland and Roturoa (sp?) and I found it pretty boring. But maybe the other Island is more exciting.

I think Vegas would be pretty amazing. You could visit LA too.

Or else staying in the GC and doing all those activities you spoke of would be pretty cool too.

If you decided to head to South East Asia let me know. I used to live in Malaysia and Thailand, and have travelled a fair bit around the region.

Thailand is best for party-party- oh and you could go to see the Tiger temple in Kanchanaburi! Plus its uber-cheap, we lived on around $5 a day for living costs (not counting accommodation cos we own a place) and basic tourism (not that there is much where we were living), and dived(twice a day for around AUD$30 with everything included), travelled around a bit etc.

I miss it. I cant wait till next year, we are having Chinese New Year at the old family home again.

i voted for vegas i think it sounds like SO much fun!!! i was born in christchurch NZ and lived there till i was 16. the south island is very pretty but IMO i would go to somewhere more exciting for such a special occasion. i guess it depends how u want to celebrate your 30th - do u want peace and scenery (NZ) or fun and partying (LV)??? x

I've been there when I was much younger (mid-teens) and I won't in a hurry to go back.

The only reason I said Las Vegas is because last time I went there I had a blast ! Since it would only be five nights I would do a show or two, party at one of the SCs (Olympic Gardens most likely as it was the only place I could get into without an escort as a lone female) and enjoy other activities... maybe even try to get to see the Grand Canyon.

Another city in the US I'm not keen to go back to anytime soon other than for Disneyland is LA. Last time I was there I experienced an earthquake (a small one yet still an earthquake) in Beverly Hills (that was exciting for me so it isn't a negative tho' I'm not keen to repeat it lol!!).. and did the Disneyland thing... and the tourist thing in Hollywood................... and Disneyland is the ONLY reason I would go back there.

Then again, why bother with Disneyland: I would rather go back to FL and do Disneyworld Now THAT is good memories!!! I could then go down to Key West... ah... I have always wanted to "do" Key West again.

Thailand is out due to the language barrier. Prefer a predominantly english speaking country. Plus, generally, overall there is less 'risk' involved with going to New Zealand by myself than to Thailand.

Plus I have to be honest... nothing about Thailand really draws me to it. Never been "big" on the Asian countries (yes including India)...

In the end, I don't want to party party.. I want to remember the trip.. I want to do and see stuff.. skydiving and white water rafting are two things I want to do for my birthday... and supposedly NZ is good for that?

I'm also inclined to go with NZ as I could easily rent a Wicked van http://www.wicked-campers.co.nz/ and do it at my own pace.. and do something I've wanted to for ages now... camping!

I have NOT camped in many many many years and miss it.. hostels are my way of getting close to it.. lol!

In the end I won't make my final decision until late Sept .. I may end up staying home and being a tourist in my own home-town (do afternoon tea at Versace again.. yum!)

THANK YOU EVERYONE for your input...
