    Default Belly ring infected...help?

My belly piercing is infected. I got it done about 2 months ago and all was well, so this is a recent thing. Sorry to be gross, but it's weeping yellow discharge. What can I do to heal it? I've tried using antibacterial soap and just letting water run over it in the shower.

Go to a good piercer and have them look at it. They can usually tell you whether or not you need to seek medical attention. A lot of people get irritation mixed up with infection. Weeping yellow pus is actually normal. It's lymph draining from a wound. I got horrible lymph on my monroe and labret when I got them done.

Ah ok, good to know. Maybe it is irritated and not infected then. Hmmm

when i get a piercing, i clean it with dr. bronner's baby castile soap, which is the only soap i use when i take a shower. when you're in the shower, put a bit of this on your piercing and gently turn the ring around to let the soap clean. then turn the piercing to gently rinse the soap off. if you can, keep other products such as shampoo and body wash away from it. avoid using things like scented soaps when you bathe. this may be irritating it. when i'm in the shower, i clean the new piercing last.

do you have a hoop or a stud? if you have a stud, try changing it to a hoop. i have always healed better with a hoop. never touch the piercing without clean hands! to this day, years after i've gotten mine, i dont touch my piercings without washing my hands.

when you get out of the shower, use a clean paper towel on the area to dry off instead of your regular towel, which can spread bacteria.

a good way to pull the ooze out is to use non-iodized sea salt (regular salt wont work). put some in a clean shot glass of warm water, mix well so the salt is completely saturated. bend over a bit, put the glass on your piercing and keep it on tight, this will create a suction. let it soak for about 10 min. do this 2-3x a day (best to do it when you get out of the shower after cleaning it). gently pat dry with clean paper towel. another option is to use saline solution for contacts. you will want the preservative free kind that comes in a can. you can spray on it periodically when you're at work.

wear loose cotton clothing (so the area can breathe) and keep clothing waistlines away from it. keep makeup away from it. wash it when you get up and at night after work. as far as work clothes, if you are wearing something that covers your stomach, wash it after it's been worn, dont wear it twice. i use whole foods laundry detergent, which is great for sensitive skin and i dont use dryer sheets, which can have irritating chemicals in them.

i'm not sure on the contact in your club, but when i'd get a piercing, i'd just tell the customers to be careful because it's new. for the most part, they were very nice and understanding about it.

And just so you know...belly piercings can take up to a year to fully heal.

I used to carry around antibacterial cleanser and just touch it up a few times a day. Make sure you have no clothes rubbing against the piercing.

I'm curious, why won't regular non-iodized salt work? Why does it have to be sea salt?

    NO HYDROGEN PEROXIDE!

While yes, the bad things are being killed SO ARE THE GOOD THINGS. You can make an infection worse! It eats away NEWLY HEALED skin so your piercing will never get better!

That yellow discharge is actually part of the healing process. When you get a bell pierced sometimes it will get a bump at the piercieng with pus/discharge, that is going to go away. This isnt abnormal. Don't pick at it and make sure you soak your tummy twice a day with a warn glass of water with some seasalt. Not too much seasalt. tho. one or two teaspoons.

My belly piercing got infected coz some douche at a night club grabbed it with his grubby fingers soon after I had the piercing done. For weeks I squeezed GREEN PUSS out of it daily. It also would crust over.

It eventually healed on it's own, I just kept cleaning it out every day and turning the ring.

The instructions I got last time I had something pierced were to soak it in sea salt for a few minutes once twice a day, and put tea tree oil on it 3x. Oh, and turn the jewelry, naturally. Never did me wrong.
