    Default Calorie Burning Chart ??'s

OK, spring IS around the corner, cabin fever over, time for more outdoor activities .

The calorie burning activity charts that I see are predicated on weights different than mine, often on a 150 lb. person, sometimes 100 lbs. My ?: Is calorie burning directly proportional to weight (eg, I weigh 200 lbs, burn is based on 100 lbs person), will I burn twice as many calories? Or is it an exponential relationship, like drivers ed "Braking Distance" that increase exponentially ( eg double the speed, quadruple the braking distance). Or something else???

    Minnow,

Yes, your calories burned are related to your weight.

It's not a "double the weight, double the burn" or anything like that. If you think about it, though, you'll see why it makes sense: in addition to performing whatever activity you are performing you are also hauling/lifting/pushing your extra body weight. It's the same as if a 100 pound girl strapped a weight vest to her chest.

If your extra weight is muscle, though, you need to remember that muscle burns more calories even at rest than fat.

    HTH.
