finally weaning off anxiety meds. its a hard road.

i know some people have been curious about weaning off of benzos becuase it can be really hard.

i was on 4 mg of ativan a day and it was making me so tired and not remember shit. i asked my doctor to switch me to a longer lasting more potent one, klonopin. so i was prescribed 2 mg a day which is the same equivilant of 4 mg a day of ativan. since switching, i have cut out .75 mg in 3 weeks down to 1.25 mg a day. its much easier to taper off. im feeling fine so far but probobly wont taper off again till after my period and pms so not till the first week of next month.

i cant drink on the klonopin thats a huge drawback for me becuase it give me horrible migranes if i try. im having serious anger issues since i quit, but im not sure if thats my emotions coming back after 3.5 years of anxiety meds or the not drinking.

in any case, i had a really bad addiction to my prescribed ativan and this really worked for me to help me get off of it. im hoping the rest of the tapering off is just as ssmooth. figured i would put the info out there becuase i know theres a lot of girls here with anxiety issues.

My doctor has been trying to wean me off of Klonopin. I'm thisclose to telling her to go fuck herself. I've cut back from 3 MGs per day to 1.5 MGs per day. I have no desire to reduce my benzo intake any more than I already have, but she keeps pushing the issue.

    Whatever.

Actually, she can go fuck herself. I think I'm going to find another doctor...

Good luck to you, though. I know I'm definately not ready to quit.

I've dealt with xanax withdrawals and it sucks. but you're making the right decision. my friend found these chinese herbal teas specifically to deal with anxiety and she said they work wonders. i will find a link as soon as i can.

i bought a cognitive behavioural therapy workbook that im working on now, for me anxiety meds were just a bandaid. a bandaid that built up a tolerance and cost too much to be worthwhile anymore and gave me withdrawls. im looking forward to getting backt o a non pill dependant life though i know its not for everyone.

What is the name of the cognitive behavioural workbook? That sounds interesting. I really feel that cognitive behavioural therapy can work wonders.

I get anxiety/depression but I found when I improved my diet, it's really helped.. better than doing drugs, because my thinking is really kind of in a daze when doing drugs.
Sometimes when I get lazy I start eating fast food, chips, pop and junk again, and I start feeling anxiety/depression.

Congratulations on weaning yourself! I was taking 5mg of klonopin a couple months ago, and sometimes 10mg at a time and finally decided I didn't want to take any meds anymore. I quit cold turkey and while my anxiety is still there, I have learned to cope with it. I face my problems everyday, like going out to stores and driving, even if it's just around the corner so that I don't ruin my progress. I still deal with the physical aspects of anxiety pretty bad, like the racing heart and sweating and stuff, but I'm also thinking about trying something natural, like a tea. I would like to kno the name of anything natural you guys have tried that works. Goodluck to everyone.
