Hahah heehee... I know how hard it is. I used to deal with it by having a drug addiction, so I know.

At least you're staying to the legal limit, that's really good.

I just worry about your itty bitty liver, is all...well.. everyone's liver. 'cause it's bad for you.

You do have a point-but some people are uncomfortable or anxious in any job. And it's a lot easier to drink at work when you work in a bar.

YES! Speaking as someone who has suffered with anxiety my whole life it doesn't matter where you work. I always feel anxious in different situations at work. I enjoy relaxing and having a drink when I am at work. Sometimes when I am completely sober I feel really uptight so it loosens me up a little. If you feel like you are drinking a lot or you NEED to drink to work then I would suggest taking a week or so off in between every so often so you don't form any habits or routines of drinking.

I love the idea about taking anti-anxiety meds. I bet it would be hard to get a prescription though. I can just imagine a shrink being judgmental and saying that if you felt uncomfortable at work it's because you shouldn't be doing it. That's not my POV -- I'm in the same boat as the OP.

^ In my experience, it's pretty easy to get those meds.

all i did was tell the doctor how i started having depression and anxiety when i was 14 and its progressivly gotten worse. how iv tried to control it myself but its gotten to a point where i need help and that it runs in my family. honestly most doctors will start u on a low dose anti depression/anxeity medication and thats all u may need to control your anxiety. i wouldnt go telling the doctor your a stripper as some doctors can be VERY judgemental and may refuse to give u meds.

I was thinking the same thing. I only worked sober. I'm not judging. I've had my vices. But I've kicked them because I value my liver. Meds are probably worse for the liver than alcohol.

i agree with that. And any job that left me dependent on a substance would not be the job for me.
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

woah... this has me thinkin i might just have a problem, i drink wayy more then one drink an hour! ill down 3-5 drinks and at least 4+ shots on any given night. the only time i "dont" drink is when i do the day shift and even then ill crack and have one drink or one shot =/
i gotta get to the route of why i drink so much, maybe cause i cant stop maybe cause i have more fun or cant deal with the job, maybe i just cant stop party mode when im at work, or its cause i make alot more $ when im drunk

Anti-anxiety meds are not the same as drinking at all. They relax your body and can just make you want to go to sleep if you take high doses...not really good when you need to be awake.

Also if you feel uptight, they don't help with that. I have been on anti-anxiety meds for years and I don't take them at work because then if you do have a drink, you're really playing with fire.

Basically, if you're not actually having panic attacks or severe anxiety they aren't going to help you. They don't make you "fun" or anything like alcohol, they just make you able to zone out and relax your muscles.

Don't tell the doctor you're a stripper. That's irrelevant; just tell him that you have a problem with anxiety. (If it is just the job then you probably shouldn't play with meds, but your post sounds like you have social anxiety in general, and a combination of therapy and meds can help you kick that.)

Unfortunately stripping and being a police officer are 2 completely different jobs. I love dancing but I'm a very shy person. It's hard for me to go up to complete strangers and ask if I can grind on their dicks for $20, without having a couple of drinks beforehand. It doesn't make me a bad person, it doesn't mean I shouldn't be doing this job. Congratu-fucking-lations to everyone who can do this job stone sober. Some people can't and that's no reason to judge. If some of us need some drinks to loosen us up, so be it.
I drink 4-5 drinks a night and I work 4 nights a week. But I only drink at work. Work is my social outlet. I have a 3 year old and I don't go out. EVER.

I just wanted to say *high five* for the moms with no social outlet lol. I also never go out... EVER. So I'm thinking this job will also provide a social outlet for me

You might want to look into Inderal. It's a low-level beta blocker that greatly reduces the physical effects of anxiety--shaking, sweating, flushness, squeaky voice, etc. A lot of public speakers, performers, golfers use it to calm their nerves. However, it doesn't do anything for your mental anxiety.

When I got it for public speaking, my doc didn't even bat an eye. You don't have to take it all the time. You only take it when you need to. And the great thing is that it's super cheap.

Wow that sounds great for my nervous sweating. That's really the only bothersome symptom I get anymore. Somehow I managed to work through my anxiety... but I guess being a pot head might have something to do with that lol

Oh my god, you sound just like me! Last time I tried to work totally sober, I was shaking so bad on stage it was embarassing. I did a little spin around the pole and stated to come down to do some floor work, and my knees literally buckled. I looked like a total idiot.
Suprisingly, a guy tipped me stageside and asked for a dance, seemed really interested, and I couldn't go over to him! He asked me, and I still couldn't get the guts to go over. I ran in the DR and hid in the bathroom stall!

The cold, hard truth is this: I am a wreck at work sober. If I go sober, I might as well not go at all.
The way I look at it, for me, is fuck it. Yeah, I have to drink to do my job right now, so fucking what. It's not like it's going to last forever. I do plan on going back to a normal job as soon as I buy a car. Dancing is all I have for the time being, it's my way of paying my bills and putting food on the table. I am not going to beat myself up....Of course, whatever decisions you make about this will be yours alone. I am not going to tell you to do one thing or another, just do what you think is best for you.
And like you said, you aren't blacking out or falling down, etc. Well, me neither. I can hold myself very well even after 3 or 4. I see girls at work all the time who have two shots and are tripping down stairs, falling over chairs, and puking everywhere.

Funny......I am tripping down stairs, falling over chairs, and puking everywhere when I don't have a drink

It's so strange because if I have to go onstage without a drink, my knees shake. I can't even walk, I'm terrified. However once I get that drink in me, I'm a goddamn professional up there.

This thread makes me sad. And it seems stereotypical of "what a stripper is."

You know the other thread where the sister is concerned about her sister who might be stripping when she's saying she's waitressing? If I were her reading this thread in particular, I'd be a concerned sister too.

THANK YOU! I can work sober (In fact, I did 2 two years before I turned 21) I also don't drink every single night I work, but, surprise, I am way more relaxed and calm once I get a few drinks in me. You're right, there's no reason for other people to judge.

Count me in as a very non "sterotypical" stripper who will have one to three drinks per shift. I don't *need* these drinks. I'd walk to the grocery store naked if it were legal. I am the opposite of shy about my body. Approaching people and asking, as someone said, if I could grind on their cock for $20 (hahaha) is a bit harder, but with practice and regular personal pep talks, it becomes second nature. However, I work in a freaking bar. Everyone is having loads of fun and acting silly. If I don't have one or two I feel like a stick in the mud. After those two I can "fake drunk" to match the inebriation level of my customers. Works llike a charm. And if anyone has a problem with it: Piss off.
