    Thumbs down Tanning = Breakouts?

When I tan I use an "indoor tanning accelerator" but I find that I break out on my face. Is it because I get sweaty or because I use that lotion? I'm worried if I don't use it, my face will be lighter than my body and I would hate to rock that look.

    Got any solutions?

I find I have this problem when I leave the tanning lotion on too long after tanning so i usually just take a shower as soon as I get home.

They have lotions made specifically for your face! Your salon should have them. Dont use the body stuff on your face. Let me see if I can find you the one I use. I really like it.

Yeah, the lotions they gave me made me break out on my face and shoulders, I stopped using them and cleared up right away.

Luckily, the self tanner I use doesn't make me break out, I was nervous it might after the lotion fiasco!

I worry that if I shower right after my tan will go away. The bottle of lotion costs like $65 and it was the cheapest one in the salon for that price I assume it dyes my skin a little... I wouldn't want $$$ going down the drain.

Also, is it possible to tan without using the lotion?

I tan without lotion. It works fine. And I'm not all sticky and smelly and gross.

The new silicone lotions from Designer Skin are freakin awesome. They rub in and you dont feel them at all. Im in love with this new line from them. Thats what that facial one is and I use a body one too. I can tan and go right to work and not feel sticky.

Hmm... their website says they are only sold in tanning salons and my salon doesn't carry them. Sounds really nice though.

all my 30+ yr old friends would gasp in horror that i even tanned my face when i complained of it breaking out... what i did... i stopped tanning my face completely (to save myself from the wrinkles and breakouts) and mixed a face self- tanner with my face moisturizer. no break outs (i never put tanning lotion on my face and still would break out in the tanning bed).

however, i take melanin injections now and haven't tanned in a very long time. it makes you dark and i know some ppl on here have had bad experiences but my friends and i all inject and we don't show any of the side effects some ppl have. if intersted try: www.tanresearch.com

also, you can get tanning lotions on ebay CHEAP!

Wait... you get melanin injections and you get dark? Seriously? Like is it a minor change or is it pretty pronounced? How much do they cost? What are some of the side effects?

There are lotions that are specifically for your face. Ask your tanning salon about them!! They may be able to order them.

A little off topic--You shouldn't shower for a couple of hours after you tan. It cools down your skin and slows the tanning process. Seriously!! I don't even use "after tan" products, because I have noticed that I don't get as dark as fast.

Also, I do love the feel of the silicone based products, but the Designer Skin ones clog my razors. I have recently started using another silicone lotion by Supre called Romp that doesn't clog my razor.

    Hope this helps!

super dark, its not orangey either its your natural cells producing melanin. My friend who is a biology major and also an advocate of the stuff could explain it better- you tan maybe once every couple weeks just to stimulate your cells. it is called melanotan II and it is illegal in the US (heads up).

3 months supply cost me 225. But I am tiny and this depends on your height/weight, some 60 mg sets will last ppl 2 months.

but yeah i love them. they also are an appetite suppressant!

I used to work in a salon and had to go through like, 8 hours of tanning and lotion certification classes.

Your lotion is dying your skin if it says it has a "bronzer". Bronzer is the fake tan stuff. However, I have never seen anyone getting an uneven tan by applying lotion in some places and not other. I used to use one kind of lotion on my body, and another on my legs and it looked fine.

You don't have to use a lotion every time, but if you want to extend the life of your tan, use it. The lotion works to hydrate your skin, so those "dyed" skin cells don't slough off as fast as they would otherwise. Also, dry skin looks a lot pasty-er than healthy, hydrated skin.

I never used a tanning lotion on my face. In fact, I never tanned my face at all. After seeing all those women coming out of the tanning bed with leathery skin and horrible looking faces, I always covered my face. I cover it with a towel, then use a facial bronzing cream or powder to make it look darker.

I do something similar, though I can't go without tanning my face at all. Usually, I keep my face covered (unless in a stand-up) until the last 2 minutes of my session. I go without make-up alot, so I don't want my face to be completely white against my golden brown body.

You'll be much better off for limiting the exposure as much as you can to your face! Don't want it looking like a saddlebag when you're 50- trust me, I've seen the worst!

You think the older girls in the club look bad b/c their faces are weathered from all the smoke? Try a 60 year old woman who has been addicted to tanning all her life.

Ehhh... I'm Russian and from where I come from everyone sun-worships and never uses a drop of sun screen. Some age better than others but I haven't noticed too many raisin faces.

Maybe the vodka keeps 'em young.

In any case, I plan on getting a few tweaks to my face as time goes on, just for maintenance. 30 years from now, who knows what lasers, face lifts, and skin treatments will be around.

It's the lotion. Tanning actually improves acne.
