Default I'm going to visit New Zealand in September!!

My bf and I were talking, and we really want to move out of the US and go travel. I've been interested in NZ for awhile now, and just spent an entire afternoon researching it. I'm looking into how to get a temporary visa or as they call it "working holiday scheme" to go stay there on this page:

    It says that "
    When you’re here

    • you must not take up permanent employment (unless you apply for and are granted an ordinary Work Permit while you’re here)
    • you can enrol in one training or study course of up to three months duration during your visit.

Please note: New Zealand law prohibits any person on a temporary permit, including a Working Holiday Scheme work permit, from providing commercial sexual services, or operating or investing in a business which provides such services."

does that mean that I'm not allowed to work at a strip club? It doesn't define what a commercial sexual service is exactly, and I would figure that if it's called "commercial" it must also be legal too-- so does that mean that if I go visit NZ I can't work at a club there as well??

We're going to apply for permits now, and go live there from September to as long as the permit lets us or as long as we want to, because we are not staying in portland when it's cold and rainy ever again!!

    So does anyone know?

I was doing the same thing yesterday - how funny!

I'm curious to about the "commercial sexual services" part as well.

I want to go on a working holiday somewhere but I'm not completely sure where. I'd like to try Australia or New Zealand. I finished up the paperwork I'd need for Irish citizenship a few months ago so I'm hoping that comes soon and I'm able to get a passport and work in Europe if I can't go anywhere else.

Um hehe, they mean prostitution. It's legal there.

You have to have at least 5k in the bank and only be working 20 hours a week to supplement your holiday, not make it.

i know you can get a job in the clubs without even having a visa anyways....least you used to be able to. i met heaps of dancers from overseas dancing their way around NZ with no visas or the basic visa. dont stress about that

mind you, the only place worth working in NZ are auckland (which sucks as a holioday destination) and wellington...some say hamilton is ok, what ever you do, DONT work in christchurch- the clubs are fronts for brothels .blegh!

You realize NZ s cold and rainy too right?
Just mentioning it because my best friend from England moved there a couple of years ago expecting better weather than England. She didnt get it and now lives in Australia. (The other reason she moved here was as Mermaid said because she founds too that Auckland sucks...)

Some of the NZ clubs have brothels upstairs. Im not sure if this effects anything. I found Wellington to be strict about working visas / documentation.
I have heard mixed reports about Christchurch. There is a thread somewhere about it I think.

weather is COLD at the mo... But sunny, at least in auckland...
If you want, you could work a couple of weeks in Auckland and take day trips to waiheke or up north, then go to wells and do a bit more, and then spend the rest of your time in the south island...?

    idk :-)

I've heard you don't need a visa at a lot of the clubs. I also know someone who went to NZ and picked fruit, she said when you stay at hostels (called backpackers) they have people who come there and pick up visa-less people to work at their farms for cheap.

about the weather.... since the seasons are reversed, we're going to go visit NZ when the weather starts getting bad in portland. I read somewhere that the west side of the island is wetter than the east side, and that the north island is slightly warmer. I definitely want to visit auckland, I was looking at clubs there too.

It's interested prostitution is legal there- I had no clue!!! I guess that's what they were referring to on the immigration page... lol.

It says on there I can get a "holiday work scheme" as well as a work permit if i'm between 18-30 years old , and stay there for up to 12 months-- that seems VERY forgiving.. a whole year?? pretty cool i guess.

I'm absolutely obsessed with NZ right now, researching tons..off to read more.

Yay! My mum is kiwi, I visit the fam there as often as possible. It's a fantastic country full of ridiculously good looking people. September's not the best time, but if you're staying a year I guess it doesn't matter.

If you can get into clubs and reviews, you'll find a review of the Whitehouse (SC in Auckland) by me...I don't remember what I wrote, but my basic impression was it wasn't for me, but there is $$ potential there if you're OK with looong hours and some fairly heavy contact.

You need to make sure you spend a good deal of time in Queenstown- beautiful.

And, I'm gonna be there in Feb 09...

www.bunac.com will help to facilitate a 3 month work visa/permit that is valid for 3 months. I believe it is able to be extended to another 3 months either in NZ again or Australia. So long as you are both under thirty and can show about 2-2.5 k of funds available in your account, you should be fine.

I'm going in late October - early November however since it will be only for just over a week... yup.. I'm purely being a tourist so I won't need to know about working conditions etc.

Here are some websites I have bookmarked for my trip:
    http://www.skydivingnz.co.nz/
    http://www.nz-rafting.co.nz/

I'm sticking to the South Island for the trip.

So I got it planned out sort of. I just applied for the holiday work scheme for up to 12 months, I'm going to get there, buy a car, and then go wwoofing around until I find a place that I really like, but until then I'll just travel from place to place learning about organic farming and permaculture. There's a naturopathic college (wellspark) in auckland that looks really nice, tuition is around 10K a year. The mermaids club looks so funny- underwater naked strip performances?? lol. It's cool though, I'd totally do it.

I set my visa to start sept 25 if I get accepted, so we'll see

Now i just have to get my BF to save up 5K so he can go too... ha.

I just got my e-mail that approved my "holiday working scheme"!!! Yay!! Now all i gotta do is get my bf to get an ID card and apply too.. he doesn't have an id, all he has is a passport.

I've been researching, and it seems like I'd like the north island better than the south island. I want to visit places that are more rural than urban, have beautiful beaches with good waves for surfing, and have hippies. Any places like that? I know there's a lot of communes in NZ, so there's got to be hippies too! What are some places I must go?

Sounds to me like you want to go to Nelson, or possibly somewhere north of Auckland.

im a bit late on this thread but you have to go to nelson there is a little town just out of nelson to i think it motuapa? if you dig hippies its beautiful. also try raglan, gisborne, the beaches round hawkes bay especailly hamoana, that is so hippyville, taupo is lovely not very hippy but heaps of cool stuff to do round the lake.
the north island is really cool heaps to do but if your coming over you have to check out the south island its magic.
