Default cell phone users be careful!

My doc says I have "soft-tissue damage" in my brain near my left temple from using my phone. I was feeling the phone heat up, then got this weird tingling on the top and back part of my skull. Eventually I began to get headaches and nausea while on it.

In fact, I have to go for an MRI, because they say there's a small chance that I've got an aneurysm.

So yeah, don't hold your cell phone to your skull. Use a hands-free device of some kind.

(Nobody worry: Even if I actually do have an aneurysm, while it sounds scary, the doc says people live just fine with these things. When you think about it, you can keel over any day from any number of things. And if you do keel over, well, that's just a whole new adventure on the other side.

    So it goes, right?)

That's frightening! I've heard rumors about cell phones being bad, but never any first hand evidence like that! I hope it turns out okay.

Someone on this site said that while they are slightly less dangerous, ear pieces will not eliminate the radiation absorbed from cell phone usage.

I do hope everything goes well for you though. That must be really scary.

i'm sorry that's happening to you! i think it depends on the phone you're using. older ones have more problems with this from what i've heard. the same problem is with microwaves too.

    here's some info i found:

how often were you talking on the phone? what phone do you have?

I was using the Motorola Razr. I was using it *a lot* because I work from home and used it instead of a business line. I was doing hours-long calls.

I've just recently looked into this..I know a lot of people think it's paranoid..but I think it makes sense that cellphones and microwaves would cause us harm..anyways..if anyone's interested I found this on a raw food/natural health site..can't say it def. works..but I figure what the hell..it's not that much money and it can't hurt...

    for the cell: http://www.juicefeasting.com/JuiceFe...7/Default.aspx

    for the headset/handsfree:

they also have stuff for cordless home phones:

Actually, using it with a hands-free device can be just as dangerous, because the problem is the fact that the antenna catches the RF waves, and the cord of a headset can function as an antenna.

The blocker devices sound cool, but I'm not inclined to trust them until more proof turns up. But I HAVE decided my next phone will be one of the ones listed in this list as having low radiation:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6602_7-5020355-1.html

Brodie, please mention which model of Razr you were using. This chart lists a number of different ones. Some of them have very high radiation, others very low, and it seems pretty arbitrary:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6602_7-...4.html?tag=nav

I hope you get better soon... and I hope your doctor publicizes your case! This is pretty damn serious stuff!

Whoas! First contacts and now cell phones?! Is anything safe anymore? Toxic shit from China in pet food, lead paint in kid's toys. Fark. I hope you're okay.

I don't know what model of Razr, sorry, but I believe I got the phone within the past year, so it's probably the latest. I've now got the LG NV. I've been using the hands-free attachment -- like an ear bud that plugs into the phone, similar to the headset you'd use for an iPod. And I've been using Skype as much as possible.

You might want to be careful with the hands-free, maybe try a Bluetooth?

Can't seem to find the NV on the LG listing, but maybe it goes by another name.

As far as I can tell -- for the general record -- the "latest model" Razr is about five different ones. It's weird stuff like: the Razr V3x has one of the lowest radiation ratings of any phone, but the Razr V3i, V3c and V3xx all have high ratings. So does the Razr Maxx Ve. All the Razr2s have low ratings. I'm like, what the hell are they doing so differently on two versions of the same phone? Some other phones have versions for different carriers that are exactly alike in how they operate, but have totally different radiation ratings. It's very odd.

    The wikipedia article is interesting.

Here's a quote, with my symptoms in bold.

    Electrical sensitivity

    Main article: Electrical sensitivity
Some users of mobile handsets have reported feeling several unspecific symptoms during and after its use; ranging from burning and tingling sensations in the skin of the head and extremities, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, loss of mental attention, reaction times and memory retentiveness, headaches, malaise, tachycardia (heart palpitations), to disturbances of the digestive system. Reports have noted that all of these symptoms can also be attributed to stress.

Brodie, for how many years have you been using cell phones?

Do you think it is absolutely from using the phone? Did you only use it on your left side?

Did the doctor say it might have affected the functioning of your brain, or just some damage to the surrounding tissue?

Agh - I'd like to get rid of my cell, but it makes my life so much easier (before the cell, I can't say how many times I waited by the phone at home for a doctor call, or something about work; or that I was stranded and couldn't get help; or that I found an animal in need and needed some help; or...)

    ^^ I dunno, probably about 8 years.

Yes I think it's from using the phone, since I would feel my head heat up , get headaches and nasaeu only when using the phone. The tenderness I feel in that temple now is akin to what you would feel like a few days after you got cracked in the head really hard.

Yes I only ever used it on my left side. I was born with a hearing problem in my right ear, so that ones basically useless.

The doctor I saw is a general practitioner and I will find out more once I see a neurological specialist and get an MRI or CT scan.

OMG I'm sooo sorry to hear that, that is scary. I know this won't help you because you use your phone for work (although maybe try a land line) but I'm a text addict, I talk to all my friends all the time and am rarely actually talking on the phone.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely post when I find out more about what's going on. I'm not too worried...I consulted my spiritual advisor and she said she doesn't think it is going to be anything too serious.

BTW, I use SKYPE now. It is the shit!

OMG I use a RAZR and have been getting so many headaches too..E too.
I'm not going to jump to conclusions, but sounds interesting. However, neither of us really use our phones all that much. On a different note though I've been using speakerphone a lot of the time. I keep my phone on my lap or just hold it in the air. The other parties haven't seemed to notice much, and I actually like it better.
I got in the habit after my BA because I COULDN"T hold the phone to my ear because I couldn't lift my arm that high! LOL

Damn I'm really glad I hardly ever use my cell. When I was younger and used it as my only phone though I got lots of headaches while talking. Freakin scary.

Wouldn't the radiation just go towards your pocket? Quite frankly I'd far prefer any badness to be directed towards my brain rather than my crotch. I mean, call my prioritys mixed up, but I'd sacrifice what little brain I actually have before I sacrifived any part of my nether regions. Then again, there are many who have argued that in my case, any grey matter I have is definitely located in the neighborhood of my vag...so it kind of evens out.

And a quick way to eliminate the problem is to get a corded earpiece and keep your phone in your bag.
