Default Need an attorney - help?

I cant find any useful info anywhere. The stupid law forums wont let me post and Im getting irritated.

We need a child custody attorney in Cleveland. Our current one is a friggen moron. B would be better off representing himself. We need a ruthless jerk to go against an attorney who used to be a judge in the courts the proceedings will be in. Any help appreciated.

Contact the Ohio Bar Association. They'll be able to give you the run down and answer any questions regarding lawyers/laws/rules/regs in that state.

not sure how much ease of access to records or time you have before your next hearing but if you know who the judge is you could research the attorney's (public records) that have argued (and won) before him/her.

frequency of appearance and personal comfort-level do sway judges. they're human too!

otoh, personal dislike or lack of respect or unfamiliarity also translate across imo.

you might see some resisting that on the higher levels (fed and state appellates) but on the lower family/civil stuff imo it's best to try and use someone who the judge is familiar with so the judge takes an instant liking to or imparts a level of trust, simply by who the attorney is, i.e. the judge sees this person every week.

if not, go thru the various organizations (ohio bar, as suggested), advertisements, local bar associations (by county usually), local law offices to the courthouse, or look for personal recommendations from single parents in the area (schools, friends, etc.) and ASK the attorneys pointedly if they have experience in front of "judge so-and-so". good luck!

    Audrey,

You may want to check out FindLaw (http://www.findlaw.com). There are search fields at the top of the page. Just type in 'child custody' in the 'Legal Issue' search field and 'Cleveland, OH' in the 'Location' search field. That should bring up quite a few family law attorneys in the Cleveland area.

FindLaw also has a guide for finding the right attorney for your child custody/visitation issues. You can find it at: http://family.findlaw.com/child-custody/custody-help/.

I hope this helps. Good luck with everything.

Thanks Snoopy - thats a really good idea!

Its just hard to find father friendly attorneys. B has no faith in the current guy even tho he was referred to him by his dad who resides in Lorain County. They spoke today and he pretty much told the attorney what he wants and what to do. He doesnt trust him to say/do what he wants so instead of attending the hearing over the phone hes flying out to Ohio Tuesday so he can meet the attorney in person.

This is a typical custody/visitation case. All B wants is visitation with his daughter and hopefully have it lead to partial custody someday. You would think thats simple. Its taken 2 1/2 years for this to even get a hearing... hes paid a high amount of support, never late, never missed a month and feels he has to beg just to see his daughter. He has no faith in the legal system anymore. Hes almost at the point of just giving up and never seeing his daughter which is really sad.
