Trust me, if you're a good dj, you'll make good money. This means your girls need to be making good money. I overtip my favorite dj because he knows exactly what do play for me, even if I don't like it, it's about what makes the money! And I also like what some of the djs say about me when I'm onstage: "Get up there now gentlemen, you're gonna miss her when she's gone!" I know it's stupid, but it always makes me blush!

And morgan, you know the guy i'm talking about! JP. I think he's at Player's most of the nights now, but he came to Jungle with me when I left Cheetahs! I absolutely adore that man!

Easy question......the answer is TIME. Time for the girls to get to know you, time for thwm to understand your not just there to get laied. Time for them to see and understand you know what your doing and then you'll be amazed. One time I had a girl who made 1,000 tip me min. When the other girls found out THEY chased her down FOR me and told her " we don't do that here". Once its like that, all will be good.

I worked with him last night! I like him, too... I think he's my favorite Player's DJ. At the Jungle, I like B the best (the night shift guy).

B rocks as well. Unless he's fucked up, then he's an asshole and I avoid him, but he's a bad ass dj. JP is just my all time fave cuz he was there when I first started dancing, he's good friends with my bf, and he always watches out for me, he'll never let me get in trouble.

Get a big, noticeable tip jar (try to find a novelty one with boobs on it or something) and remind the customers once in a while that they can hear a song they want for a tip.

We need to remember that dancers and DJ's are on the same team. So, for that matter, is waitstaff and management and bouncers. We're all working toward the same goal: making money. When everyone remembers that and helps each other out, it works GREAT!

I always tip my DJ well...

I had the same problem at my first club, especially. Looking back on it, I can see that I was WAY too nice, which was not a bad thing at all for the cool ones, but a very bad thing indeed for the ruthless ones--of which there are entirely too many of both sexes in this fucking business. You have to have gonads of steel to survive and prosper, whether they are dangling or kept sucked in at all times.

You have to develop the ability to be as ruthless as the most savage of them all, male or female, manager, dancer, bouncers, any of them. Take shit from no one, but bend over backwards to the ones that respect you.

What has always worked for me is to emphasize the fact that you are in it together, and never accepting a tip when I know for a fact that the dancer in question has had a shitty night. The ones that lie to you about it, tough shit--make sure you get what management requires. The ones that are cool, continue to spoil them rotten.

Learn to put iron in your voice when you have to, with some people you need it--again, this applies to both sexes.

^ That's great. I wish you was my dj.

When I have a shitty night and go to tip the dj and he honestly says " no, I know it's been a tough night, make it up to me later"
I will make damn sure that the next time I tip him, I do make it up to him and then give even extra for him being nice enough to let me slide one day.

I don't really understand why clubs expect the girls to tip out more to the non-dancer employees when the dancers do well. Unless the DJ is out on the floor hustling dances for me, it's my business if I make bank that night or do poorly. I don't think the DJ should make more money off of my hard work. Even if someone hands me a 20 onstage, that 20 is not likely to end up in anyone elses' hands but my own. Which I think is perfectly reasonable.

Then again, I work at a club where I choose my own music. But still...it's your JOB to choose music, right? So why would you get overpaid for doing what you're supposed to do?

If I didn't feel comfortable with him or like him personally, I'd just give him $5, for sure. There is not a lot he does (or can do) to really justify a large tip in our club setup.

Have you considered what other club DJs make there?
Wow. Our nightly averages here are $100-$200, and yet our mandatory MINIMUM tip-out is $15. All the clubs I've ever worked at had a mandatory 10% DJ tip-out. (Of course, that was the ONLY tip-out we had to do... No house-moms, no manager/bouncer tip-outs, etc. We'll tip waitresses a buck or two when they bring us a drink, but that's it. I tried to tip the doorguy for walking me all the way to my car one night and he refused the money.)

    I can't imagine making $400 and only tipping $10.

Tipping isn't madatory at my club, but I usually tip 5-10 for every hundred I make. The house takes 1/3 of my money to start with, so it can be rough for some of us.

May I recoment a little very light, non-creepy flirting with the girls? Just kinda be extra friendly and eventually you'll be part of the family.

IMO, it's a tipping industry and for that system to work out to the best advantage for everyone involved, the back-scratching needs to be reciprocal. Having worked with some really shitty DJs, I will gladly go out of my way to make sure the good ones feel appreciated. If I know a DJ is interested in making my night run a bit more smoothly (ie, not putting me on stage the second I get out of VIP, making sure my songs are played, putting me on stage right when the bachelor party walks in or in a spot in the rotation that displays me to the best possible advantage), then yes, of course he is helping me and I'll hook him up when I can.

Madmonk, I think a lot of the problems you're having happen because you have not yet set a precedent where the girls you work with know that you are actually helping them, personally, have good nights. If you do any of the above things I mentioned, by all means tell them so that they know. When a strip club is really well run, it all looks easy, when in reality, there are a lot of people helping to make that happen. Also, when you get a dancer who goes above and beyond, give her special treatment that hopefully the other girls can catch on to.

Wow Morgan, great posts, glad to see that there is still hope out there

Anyways without getting into great detail Madmonk, There are many ways to generate more tips for yourself (although some may call it greed). Listen to the Dj's here first and formost we have been in the game along time and know what we are talking about. Heres my suggestions:
    - Make sure your current with your music, subscriptions to a service such as "promo only" can help you stay current for a low amount of money.
    - Learn how to plan the rotation (as mentioned above) if a girl is able to generate more money off stage, keep her off. OTH if a girl wants to go up more, try and squeeze her in for another set. Once you get good at this you will have girls that will pay you to stay off stage and to go on more so you can make it seem you are doing them BOTH a favor and they BOTH will pay you for it
    - Dont chase them for tips (EVER), But dont be a pushover either, dont go out of your way to help low tippers, there will always be those that want to keep ever cent they make, believe you do nothing for them and that the dj is there to push buttons (but thats another topic..lol) those are also the same girls that go out to eat spend 150$ on dinner and tip the waitress 5.00 too.
-And mostly, dont get offended or ever take anything the girls do to you personally, its not you! Could be the area, could be your working in a club that the dj dosent have the ability to really make a difference. You might even want to find a higher tipout club, the good dj's in the business (as far as the club owners managers go, not the dancers) are becoming few and far between. So they are able to command better tipouts and salaries from the clubs. You sound very new to this and inexp, so just work on getting good at the basics.

Feel free to PM for more pointers, those are just a few general guidelines.

The DJ is not our only tip out by far. I work at a large club where we have house fees, schedule fees, house moms, VIP hosts, bartenders, bouncers, and guys who walk us to our cars. On a night where I make $500, I pay $35 to the house, $20 to the house mom, and $20 to the DJ, plus handouts to whoever helped me. This is after paying out 25-30% of dance and VIP money. If the club takes 30% of your money then tipping out 8-10% seems pretty fair - especially in such a big club with one house mom and one DJ.

The $10 figure comes from an example of a bad night, when I grind out $300, when I would pay the housemom and DJ $15 and $10, respectively. (Our DJ is paid hourly and the house mom is not.) If the DJ has been playing my requests all night, or sent me a customer, then I tip him more anyway.

Does it make more sense now?

Oh, and there are 15-40 girls on a night shift.
That makes a little more sense...

In my club, the house does NOT take a cut of dances. House fees range from $5 (on the floor by 5 PM) to $30 (on the floor after 9 PM), and the DJ tipout is $15 or 10%, whichever is greater. Also, when I talk about how much I earn, that's AFTER my house & tipouts, so if I say I made $150 (which IS my average after house/tipout), that means that I made $170-$195, depending on what time I arrived.

And for the curious: The last three nights I worked:

    Friday: $85 (total) - $15 (tipout) - $20 (house) = $60
    Saturday: $50 - $15 (tipout) - $5 (house) = $30
    Monday: $165 - $15 - $5 = $145

Damn, but I need to get the hell out of here...

Djoser has some great points, listen to this guy, there are going to be the girls that tip you great whether you hook them up with money, do a special service for them or they just like you. and there are going to be the girl that just fuck you no matter what you try, just dont go out of your way for them anymore and it doesnt matter, i have actually made things more difficult on a dancer that consistently fucked me, and just flat out saying no when she made special requests, some of them also dont know the etiquette and this is the only way they are going to get it. I also know a decent amount of people who are bar owners, corporate ceo's etc, they call me and let me know they are going to stop by with a bunch of clients etc, who do you think it is I tell? the girl who is hot but consistently give me $5? nope.

the quote i have always used is "you take care of me i take care of you"

for the record: my "job" is to keep girls on stage and music playing and the customers entertained, i regularly go above and beyond to help my girls make more money,

My club has a mandatory tip of $15 for the DJ. We usually have about 10 girls on a night. He gets paid by the club on top of that.

That seems like enough to me. There are many nights where the DJ is making more than the girls...which I think is ridiculous. That's just me though.

I do tip an extra few bucks if he does something cool for me (keeps me company, etc). I just meant that I don't think they should EXPECT to get tipped more, necessarily.
