Default Is vegas business license dancer specific?

    Hello,

I have searched and searched, but can't find the answer to my question. I want to work in Vegas, but it is VERY important that it never shows up on a background check. Will I be an employee of the clubs there, or just an independent contractor? Does the Vegas business license say that I am a dancer or does every person that works in Vegas as an independent contractor need one?
I understand the Sheriff's license is NOT dancer specific. If there is any chance of anyone (besides someone coming in that may recognize me) being able to dig this up, I would rather continue to live vicariously through all of you and not realize this dream of mine.
I work in a field where potential employers do exhaustive background checks and I cannot risk being discovered!
    Thanks...this site is so helpful.

Dancers in vegas are ICs, I'm not sure if the business licence says you're a dancer or not, it doesn't say it on the copy I have, but whether the state has that reason down next to your license number is unknown to me. You will need to get a business license to dance out here, it's required by law to have one.

As far as someone recognizing you, just make sure no one comes into the club. The club won't take your picture and put it on a website, so the only way someone could see you is if they actually came in and you are working.

    Thanks for the quick response!
When you applied for your biz license, did they ask you what it was for or was it a "generic Vegas business license"?

The business license you get is just a Nevada State business license. Your sherriff's card is a non-gaming card, which could be a variety of different occupations, I suppose. I can't remember if you have to state why you are applying for either of them.

Yes, you do. You have to get a slip from a strip club which they fill out and say that they will hire you if you get your Sherrif's card. Many places require you have your Sherrif's card before you even audition, just in case, say the club would get busted while you were auditioning, so they will give you this slip wether or not they would actually hire you.

The Sherrif's card is just non-gaming, but I would imagine somewhere on file would be where you applied to work.

As far as the business liscence, all I know is mine just had my name on it. But I mean, I think it would be pretty common knowledge that if you don't live in Nevada and you have both of those things, maybe you're a dancer....

    Anybody have more helpful advice?

IMO, that would be a tough connection/assumption for someone to make if they weren't familiar with our industry.

I didn't go to the office myself to get it the first time, the club I work at has a girl does that and I went through her. But when I went to renew they didn't ask questions, they just wanted the $100 for it.

The sheriff's card is not dancer specific. However, in the application process you do say why you're applying for one. It's on your referral but not on your card.

When applying for or renewing my license, I was asked what was the nature of my "business" and I did say entertainer. It does not say entertainer on my actual license however. The license seems more for tax purposes so I'm not sure it would come up on a background check.

The business license is for the state of Nevada. Reators, landlords, massage therapists, pretty much anyone in business for themselves is required to get one. The sheriff's card is specific to Las Vegas and is not limited to dancers either. Dancers only need to get a non-gaming card, but there are also gaming cards. The difference is wether you are working in an establishment that has gaming or not. Just to give a better understanding, if you worked as a waitress you'd need the sheriff's card plus two other cards (TAM card and health card) a business license would also come into play if you did temp or agency gigs (as many bartenders and waitresses do).

I just pulled out my copy of my Nevada business registration (Ha, now if I could only find my house keys ) As a dancer you will.....
    (The good news first.....)
Check the box for "Sole Propriator"
Use your full name as your business name
Use your home address as your business address. (You do NOT need to list the club you work at)
Be listed at 100% owner of your Nevada business
Check the box "service" for your industry (very vague, could be anything)

    HOWEVER
Section 15 asks.... "Describe in detail the nature of your business. Include product sold, labor performed and/or services rendered". I just wrote entertainer. I supposed if you can come up with a more creative answer for this question, or just lie ....you might be off the hook if it shows up on a background check.

couldnt you technically get way with saying you are a "model"? I mean technically you walk a runway , and you can be modeling a g-string or stripper outfit?
    LoL

A sheriff's card is nothing more than a background check indicating you don't have any felonies or things employers would be wary of. It's also a way the state makes money on your behalf as it was signed into law. I really wouldn't worry about it. If you're on myspace, thats primarily what employer's are checking out nowadays. Change your name so you're not searchable and change your zipcode. Other than that you should be fine, hun.
