Default Summer is almost here. Are you wearing sunscreen yet?

It might not officially start for a couple more months but its already summer weather here in Southern California and time to spend more time outdoors. The larger sunscreen selections have been put out in the drugstores. I'm just about to order some Mexitan today. http://www.mexitanproducts.com/.

I should wear it every day because I'm very fair but I choose just to hide inside instead. Some of the chemicals in sunscreens seem just as bad as the sun itself. I'm hoping I like Mexitan. I've heard good things about it since it has no chemicals, preservatives, PABA, or nanoparticles.

Do you wear sunscreen when you go outside? What is your favorite kind?

Everyone should wear SPF 30+ all year round, everyday! Mine is from a professional line bought from a salon. I can't feel it at all.

What sunscreen won't make you break out?
Also, I feel like when I wear lotion in the summer it just melts off my face in the heat -- is their a sunscreen that doesn't have that effect?

    *wears it all year long*

And LimaBean, even if you are sitting near a regular window long enough, you can get a small amount of sun damage. Slather it on girl!

I admit I'm really bad about wearing it. On the other hand, I'm inside all day working, and even when I go out, it's after 3 or 4pm. I live in MN so the sun isn't all that strong even at its peak.

BUt I did just buy some moisturizer with an SPF in it, so I'm wearing it by default.

    I prefer a mineral sunscreen to slathering myself in sunscreen. This stuff is all good;
Actually I love all their products and you can but samples :-) I love me some samples. Unfortunately I get a bit lazy, stupid cos my mum is a redhead with skin cancer. Aand I worked in oncology, aaand I grew up under the hole in the ozone layer. Yes, I am a dumbarse.

I wear sunscreen all year round on my face and neck and the tops of my hands. Being fair, I know I'm vulnerable to sun damage. I already have strange pigmented spots on my face from being a child and my mother not being vigilant with the sunblock. No one notices in the winter but come summer everyone's always like "Oh hey look at those freckles!" Yeah I have freckles, they're cute and all but the splotches that go with them certainly are not.

    Moral: sunscreen year round.

I wear sunscreen all year round. Even when I used to tan. A derm once told me that tanning moderately wasn't much worse than not wearing sunscreen during day to day activities. So since then I figured why fry twice when I don't get any extra color from the day to day exposure. Now that I'm older though I'm strickly fake bake.

SPF 65 in the winter, SPF 85 in the summer. Every single day. Since I was 12. Have I mentioned I have a strong family history of skin cancer?
Seriously though, my skin is now so pale it's freaking translucent. On the plus side- no tan lines.
I use a local brand called "Rocky Mountain High Exposure". It's all physical sunblocks, a la titanium dioxide, instead of chemical ones.
And go all of you for wearing sunblock!

Wow, SPF 85. Thats incredible. The highest I've seen is 70 somewhere.

I think I'm going to order a few non-chemical sunblocks and see which one I like best. Then hopefully I can buy like a gallon size pump of it and just leave it somewhere obvious so I always put it on. I don't care if it tints me slightly white, I'm pretty much color-less already so I don't think its going to show up much . I've been told by derms not even to attempt tanning because I won't turn anything but red and crispy.

I'm a translucent girl and my dad and grandma have both had major scary skin cancer. I've had some weird looking but benign moles removed from verrrry uncomfortable places already. I never used sunblock as a kid and I kinda wonder why my mom never made me slather it on. She worked in pediatric oncology too. My grandma never wore it and boy does she look horrible, blotchy and covered with all sorts of little barnacles.

I've always slathered moisturizer with SPF on my face and neck but I want to start coating my arms and hands daily. I don't want to be old and have a smooth, un-aged face but scary old lady hands.

Today is the first day it occurred to me. Literally, it's the first nice warm sunny day all year.

I hate the stuff, but swore I'd start wearing it more.
    Order Avon through my website!

I hate the stuff too. It smells funny. I don't even like the coconut scented ones. But it seems like I don't have much choice in the matter.

There was one brand that was discontinued about two years ago called Suntanicals by Banana Boat that smelled amazing. It was like a fresh cucumber melon scent. I'm not sure why they got rid of it. I bought the last of it I could find on Ebay but I'm moving on to more natural options now....as soon as I find one thats not too thick, gritty, or funky.

I wear it everyday. Even on rainy days, you can still catch harmful rays. Also, the horrible lighting in Walmarts, Longs, CVS's,et.

I wear a thirty plus on my face and a 50 on body.

I heard you can actually catch rays under your clothes if outside long enough.

I used to wear SPF year round, but I've been slacking this winter. Yesterday I bought me a tinted moisturizer (I prefer that over regular foundation in the summer), so I'm convered now!

I've been so bad w/using sunscreen. It's a habit I seriously need to pick up. I need to do some research for a good face one and pick some up.

The makeup that I use (MAC) has sunscreen in it, but I wear sunscreen underneath it because it isn't SPF 30. You need a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30+ and it should contain a good UVA such as avobenzone, zinc oxide, or titanium.

    avobenzone 3%: solbar 30 PF gel, Neutrogena 55 w/ helioplex, Coppertone 50,

zinc oxide 8%: solbar zinc, vanicream 30 or 60

titanium oxide 9%: neutrogena 30 sensitive skin

I use Neutrogena 55 w/ helioplex. It's really light and non greasy.
