Default too broke to eat ?

Have you ever been in a position where you are literally too broke to eat ? Did you think of it as the perfect opportunity to start the Master Cleanse ?

How far have you ever been able to push it financially ? In fact, share your , "I was so broke" stories . Did you live off of TopRamen or go without electricity ? Recycle TP and the like? Just curious with the approaching recession.

    (great thread though)

Never been too broke to eat as an adult. But as a child... yes. I remember eating bread and fruit basket leftovers when my older brother worked at a grocery store.

Lol!! If I was too broke to eat I certainly would not have had the money to buy all the ingredients in the master cleanse! That shit is expensive!!

yes I have been too broke to eat but no, I most definately did not think it was a good time for a cleanse. I lived on food from the bakery I worked at (and so did my housemates) and bread that was given to our school for the disadvantaged kids (We had alot of kids who didn't live at home). Basically a shitload of bread, and I'm wheat intolerant, it sucked, so I got stoned of gifted pot and ate more bread, yay. (Believe it or not, I think back on these times somewhat fondly).

Yha I've been too broke to eat but not for an extended period of time so I just had a guy friend take me out and no one was the wiser. Being poor is what got me used to eating once a day.

So broke I stood in front of a McDonalds staring at the two cheeseburgers for a dollar sign crying because I'd spent my last dollar on some stupid kind of food like nachos at a gas station. I didn't buy gas station food after that for like 8 years.

Yeah, when I was in high school and got kicked out of my house. I ended up homeless hanging out on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley for a bit. It's embarrassing for me to say, but since you asked I would hang out at the pizza places and eat food that was left over. I was too ashamed even being a teen to beg for change. It was a shitty time. Remembering times like that really keeps me on my toes & my hustle. But I usually choose to push it out of my mind and pretend it never happened, to be quite honest. All of my childhood was poor, poor, poor. But this was the one event that really stuck w/me and traumatized me the most. Plus, it was really cold outside. Like, in the morning my skin would sting kind of cold.

    Oh God yes.

You know things are bad when you're picking up all the change you can find, just HOPING to come up with a dollar and a few pennies to maybe...just maybe...buy a double cheeseburger.

Then the lightbulb goes off: The manager at the McDonalds wants to fuck you. You can use this to your advantage.

Free food, free place to stay, job that you can't get fired from even if you don't show up for 3 days in a row.

Then at age 16 you realize... "I NEVER HAVE TO DO WITHOUT, EVER AGAIN!" and thank God relentlessly for your great face, great hair, great body, great breasts, great ass, great ability to suck cock, snapper tight pussy, non-prolapsable anus...and then simultaneously pray for forgiveness and hope that God 'understands' why you do what you do.... lol

I'm looking at my brokeness as a way to shed a few lbs and save money on food...trying to look at the bright side. So right now it's the master cleanse or Taco Bell

Right before I started dancing, me and my college roomies were so broke. I remember one summer day we went to this park to hang out and all of these people were there cooking out and the smells of the food about killed us. We wanted to sneak into this big family reunion, but they were all black and we were white so we knew we would get busted. They were cooking up ribs and all kinds of good shit. It was torture!! We went home and made box mac and cheese and ate it with lots of condiments. Eeeew!

But I've never been honestly and truly broke. My family would help me out before it ever got that bad.

Yep. Before I started dancing, then once after when I was trying to pay off a ridiculous amount of parking tickets, my tuition, books, and a $400+ electric bill. I got rid of the phone and tv and still couldn't pay for food for a couple of months.

I didn't look at it as a diet. It helped that I was in a college town. There was a bar right down from me that had $1 drafts and free food for happy hour 2 days a week, another down the street that had free wings on another day. I would fix up and go there with a friend and wait around for a guy to buy me a beer, then gorge on the free food. That and a box of generic mac & cheese would last me a week. I would also try to get an invite or two for dinner during the week, either going to a friends or on a date. If I couldn't score a dinner invite or two, it was a crappy, hungry week, but the free food and mac & cheese were enough to keep me alive.

If anyone is in this situation just try to be creative. It's bad, but everything can be fixed if you really think it through.

I was so broke I stole food from grocery stores and once the alarm beeped on me and the staff let me go.

They knew the whole time what I was doing.

I've never been too broke to eat, but man things are getting expensive! I usually get one of those frozen pkgs. of halibut for 4.96 and yesterday the price went up to 9.96!!
In highschool is used to use five dollars for a cheeseburger from Mcdonalds, a pack of cigerettes and 2 gallons of gas. I miss gas under 2 dollars.

It's good to support your local food bank when you can. You just never know who you might have helped.

I've been nearly too broke to eat lately because my stupid manager isn't giving me shifts at work and only get paid every fortnight. I've had enough for food and train tickets to work but only just. My bank account is permanently at the $10 mark which is kind of scary though.

If you are doing the cleanse right you need to buy water, have only organic lemons or limes. Organic grade B ms, and cayenne. Non-ionized salt and senna tea bags. I always thought it was expensive.

Yep. It was three days until payday and no food at all. I didn't know food banks gave food to people who had jobs, so I didn't even ask. A neighbor gave me a box of mac and cheese. That stuff is disgusting when made with just plain water, but I ate it anyway.

I started planning strategic dating after that. I'd at least be guarenteed a sandwich or something.
