Default Has anyone tried the shaving cream trick to stick to your stainless pole ?

I am having a hard time climbing my home pole ( stainless ) , but I can do it on a brass one. A local pole instructor said to apply shaving cream and just wipe it off . Supposedly , it will give you grip. I'll report back soon.

I wouldn't do this in a club of course ( muck up the pole ).

I do this at the club - It really does work well, and I don't really think it mucks up the pole too much. Plus anyone who is doing heavy pole work will wipe it down with alcohol before they go on. Make sure you get a shave gel. You only need to use a little, rub your hands together for a bit and then wipe off any excess.

We used it in the club, but i found it became slimy after a few minutes-maybe i was putting too much on?
To clean my stainless I cover a rag with water and rubbing alcohol give it a good rub down and dry off with a towel. UBER GRIP!
I have experimented with using hairspray on my thighs for hold and that works to a certain extent, same for deodorant on my hands.

stainless steel is known for it's difficulty to grip...esp. if you're new to the pole. You'll be thankful though. I have the stainless at home, and when I go to a different club I can do ALL sortsa shit on their poles. I'm stunned at my grip half the time.
I just use straight up alcohol to clean my pole(on a rag of course) and nothing on my hands. Although I have heard the shaving gel works well.

and i agree, if you go dance ona brass pole after dancing on ss man you are like a god on the pole.

Ajbear : Exactly ! I'm forcing myself to learn on the stainless ( hopefully without getting dependent on any products ) . My only alternative though is to pay this studio $10 an hour to pratice climbs on their brass. Plus .... it's a drive and I'm lazy.

I have a question. Do you know how gymnasts powder up their hands before they go on the uneven bars? Would baby powder on the hands do the same effect for a stripper on a pole?

(Anyone has the complete right to smack the shit out of me if this question is too idiotic. My brain has been fried from studying for finals.)

I also have a stainless and I swear by a product called Dry Hands. Just a tiny drop is all you need.

I was a gymnast for 7 years. Most gymnasts use "grips" on the bars (usually leather hand-covers to prevent rips): and the chalk soaks up any moisture, but allows your hands to move freely around the WOODEN bars. But, by soaking up the moisture, it allows you to stop moving when you clench your hands tighter.

Simmilarly, I've always used Prince Grip, found in the tennis and raquet sports section of you're local sporting goods store.

You complain about $10/hr? Damn, that's nothin! Anyway, there is an XPole that is Titanium Gold ($360). It is about in between brass and ss. You can get it on my site. I agree with the dry grip and sure grip- they will help! I have never heard of the shaving cream, but I do use gymnastic chalk! One of the reasons you are losing your grip is because your hands are sweating. Gymnastic/weight lifters chalk is mean to absorb moisture. Also try ROSIN bags found in tennis equipment. You don't need too much, just enough to absorb the sweat.

    GOOD LUCK!

I use the same thing for my stainless at home. I have found that wearing the right shoes is key. When I wear my vinyl boots boots its like I am freaking super woman haha. It is much harder trying to use only your strength to get up the pole.

The more u use your stainless pole the gripper it will get. It will also be grippier when it's warm so when u first get on it it will be very cold so just do some warm up stuff, spins etc. wait til the pole is warm before trying any tricks.

also hairspray on the palms of your hands will help. it does leave sticky residue on the pole but u can just clean it off with alcohol. i put hairspray on my palms and my inner thighs.

for super strong grip u can use magnesium block - u know the white powdery chalk stuff gymnasts and weight lifters use on their hands? u can get it from body building stores.

Wow, you use that on a stainless pole? I bought a block of gym chalk to try out and found for my stainless pole it actually made my pole MORE slick not less

In all honesty, you're going to need to learn to use the pole without that kind of thing. You're going to end up running across some slippery poles in your time and not always have shaving cream on hand.

I tried it out. It didn't seem to work any better than just making sure the pole was really clean with alcohol and keeping my hands dry with the same cloth.

True but it can be useful when u r trying to learn a new skill to have some extra grip. when u get more experienced u wont need it

Funky. We must have tried two different kinds of gym chalk. Yours sounds like what happened when I tried to use bowling resin. Ouch!
