Default Rave for vegitarian meat substitute

Now if you know me you know fake meat is not my thing.
But i tried it when i was eating vegitarian for a few days to detox and i thought it was really good.
It was made by a company called Quorn and it was in my grocery store freezer, i tried the "chicken" cutlets and ground "beef"
    Both very good
The chicken was my fav. i marinated it in asian salad dressing and baked it and put it on an asian salad with mixed greens, orange segments, red onion and slivered almonds and cucumbers and tomatoes
    AWESOME!
    It really tasted like chicken!

TVP is great in Manwich sauce too for sloppy joes. That's the first way I had every had it. I think we ended up finding it at Whole foods. You can buy much cheaper online though.

Yes! The Quorn stuff is unbelievable-especially the chicken cutlet (it was so realistic, the texture, shape it freaked me out)! I am vegan now and wont eat it, but I rave about it to all of my friends. I eat the Morningstar crumbles too, which are far better than TVP- and are mostly seitan (wheat gluten). If you are located near a natural health foods store, I would suggest you try Tofurkey's deli slices too.

I lurrrve the Quorn chicken stuff. It isn't vegan (has eggs in it) but I still buy it because it keeps me from eating actual chicken. But then I think, if it has eggs, it still has chicken...just...baby embryo chickens.

Please do not take offense to the following unsolicited advice.

If you are trying to "detox," putting artificial flavors, texturizers, binders and fillers into your body is not going to get you there. You might as well eat the chicken, because chicken only has 1 ingredient: chicken. Quorn "chicken," however, has the following ingredients: Mycoprotein, rehydrated egg white, enriched wheat flour (niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), onion, rapeseed oil. Contains 2% or less of salt, dextrose, wheat gluten, autolyzed yeast extract, leavening (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate) whey protein concentrate, tapioca starch, rice flour, mustard flour, pectin, natural flavors from non-meat sources, spices, garlic powder, sunflower oil, citric acid, spice extractives, guar gum, onion powder, gum arabic, yeast, paprika, dough conditioner (ascorbic acid, L-cysteine monohydrocloride, soybean oil.

...Why eat artificial shit if you don't have some burning desire to do so? You say you don't ordinarily like fake meat... that's fine, you're not missing out on anything, nutritionally speaking. Just eat real meat. Organic if possible.

Incidentally, Mycoprotein is described here: http://www.cspinet.org/quorn/quornpr_032102.html
    And here: http://www.vegparadise.com/news16.html

...I'll concede that those articles might be products of the mudslinging soy industry (who notoriously hate anyone infringing on their market), but the bottom line remains: why eat an engineered product if you don't have to?
Drought was over. Where was I? Drinks were on the house.
For mixers, my love, you'd poured--what?--even the rain.

Ick, I greatly dislike Quorn or TVP in general, tastes like rubber to me. ^ I agree with TOTH as well.

I love meat and I buy the Morningstar corn dogs at least once a month. They make great snacks, and taste just like the real thing.
