    Default Body Temperature Issue

I am extremely temperature sensative for reasons I have no clue of.

It's really fucking annoying because I will shivver for literally an hour or two after coming into a warm place in the winter and in the summer it takes me an eternity to cool down after being outside. The summertime is definitely the more problematic of the two cause I seem to enjoy passing out when I get overheated, which is really easy for me to do.

I'm not extremely thin so I know that can't be the cause.

Is there some sort of vitamin or non-prescription something I can take to be able to keep my body temperature more in check or do I need to work extra-hard to get some money to see a doctor? I have been this way for about two years now and I've never been too concerned before. However, my family has moved out of the area so should anybody find me passed out on the street this summer, I can't just get peeled off the pavement by my mom.

Does anybody have a clue why my body might be this way?

Get a blood test to be sure. I have VERY low sodium, and my body doesn't retain it like normal. I have to put salt on foods, and have recovery drinks post workout (which sucks cause I hate the sugar in them). I have VERY similar experiences with hot and cold. The more incidence of heat related sickness/stroke/etc. you have the less able your body is to correct and maintain your functional temperature (at least that's what the ER doctor told me the last time I was wheeled in). So I'm really good about it now..for the most part. I now get precursor signs that I'm not regulating...like a massive headache. I eat sodium and all gone. It's a different type of headache than usual, so I know when it's time to consume, and when it's a reg. headache. I hope that helps. But I would really have a blood test to be sure..you don't want to be passing out all over the place.

I would advise asking your doctor to do a thyroid function test. It's done with a blood test. Your thyroid is basically the regulator of your body temperature. So if you u seem hot or cold when others aren't for example, it could be an underactive or overactive thyroid issue.

That was my first thought, especially since every single woman in my family winds up having to get her thyroid killed and I'm basicly just sitting around waiting for mine to explode. Personally, I don't know why they docs won't just let me drink the radioactive iodine to get it over with, but oh well.

When this started happening two years ago I did have a thyroid test done because that was instantly the first suspect, but it came back as normal.

I should add I've had several thyroid tests (I have many signs..exhaustion, difficulty loosing weight and the thermo-regulation) I too have had all mine come back normal. Just doesn't seem right though.

You could possibly be anemic too. I'm anemic & I have body temp. problems. IE, my legs & feet will be ice cold although the room & the upper half of my body are around 80 degrees.

My feet have forever and always been ice cold...I attribute it to a few too many years in pointe shoes though.

I know that I'm virtually never exhausted though. Serioulsy, I'm a ball of energy almost 24-7, though you would be extremely hard-pressed to tell due to my natural penchant for being emo. Ask anybody who knows me, if I'm left alone, I kind of zone out, but engaging me in any sort of activity or conversation will have me at full attention. I usually go to bed around 3, wake up at 11 or noon, and from the minute I come alive to the moment I detatch myself from the world, I am completely awake and ready to do anything.

I don't necessarily have a problem with losing weight, it's just that I tend to be a fan of extremely bad ways of losing weight (I don't diet...I starve! Then when I can't deal with that anymore I go back into bulimia mode. My right middle finger gives me away terribly, lol) and quite frankly, it's not worth going back into therapy to lose a few pounds just cause I don't comprehend the concept of moderation. I can certainly lose weight when I want...the only problem being I don't ever do it correctly. At the moment I'm on a lose weight kick and man, I can't tell you how glad I am to be trapped in the club for hours on end with nothing I like on the menu!

i have that same problem. actually, we seem to share a couple problems.

i used to be able to handle cold pretty well, when i was a kid. loved it in fact. now i just can't handle it, after a serious bout of unhealthy weight loss, ahem. always been bad with the heat though. i pretty much depend on a/c and can't go places that don't have it for very long. with my first car, i would basically go for a cool down drive every night to lower my body temp so i could fall asleep without getting a headache. the a/c in that thing made me fucking shiver in the summer. it was beautiful.

i wish i knew what to do about it. in the winter, it's anything to raise my blood pressure. it's naturally very low. sodium definitely helps. things to improve my circulation, like regular exercise and massage. before i go to bed, i'll give myself a hot footbath and put on socks, otherwise they're too cold for me to sleep.

summer, i don't go outside in the day, pretty much. i'm actually about to get ready for summer by dropping some weight. sadly, it helps.

but yeah, i blame my low blood pressure and shitty circulation. i'm pretty sure there's a vitamin or mineral that helps, i'll look through my notes. i've been bad about restocking, so i've forgotten which one.

i'm a df member too. <3 where the fuck did that davey quote in your sig come from, it's a riot.

OMG, you're my fucking twin! That Davey quote is from the Ask AFI section on the DF boards. Somebody asked Davey if blowjobs were vegan and I just fell in love with that line.

Yeah, the whole blood pressure and circulation thing probably could have something to do with it. I know that I'm world-renowned for freaking docs out with my ultra-low bloodpressure and virtually non-existant pulse.
