A girl called 911 in need of help and got hung up on! I guess even the police cannot help you.. poor girl.

So do you think having your own protection is bad idea? I'm not trying to start a debate, just curious.

You don't need a gun to protect yourself. But maybe it's just because I have something better than a gun. Balls of steel on a body that looks easy to fuck with but with the strength of much stronger men.

911 (America) put me on hold once. I just hung up and protected myself.

Definitely don't want to get into it (haha) but I am a proud gun owner.

Not to start a debate, but what if two big huge guys break in your house? Or one guy with a gun? There's nothing physically you (or I obviously) could do to stop them unarmed.

Also, that incident happened in WI....how nice. I agree that 911 does suck. I once recieved a series of threatening phone calls that some weirdo said he was outside my house and he was going to break in and do bad things to me. I called 911 and they told me to call the non-emergency number because it WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY???

    WTF?

WTF, they should get sued for not following up on that call. Usually cops show up to the hang up calls. That is just not right.

I'm armed to the teeth. I actually feel sorry for anybody who tries to break into my house. I've got weapons all over the house, my car, and my person. I'm even designing some stripper outfits that have pieces that can be used as weapons for self defense.

They can bring it. Hell, I've been wanting to test out my eyeball/stungun theory anyways.

There's too many variables there. One guy with a gun? HIGHLY unlikely considering guns are illegal here. But two big huge guys? Meh, I could be killed with a gun as easily as without one. But the point is pointless as I can can't get one ANYWAY.

I live in Madison and there is quite a bit of concern regarding this latest news in the Brittany Zimmerman case. I would like to hear a further explanation for the 911 screw up. I will reserve final judgement on it until all the facts are out. But it appears to be a major "blunder."

People are getting a bit disatisifed with authorities here. We do not have that many murders, but three of them in the past year are unsolved. This 911 news on top of that fact leads us to believe there is a significant problem with our police service.

Let's hope the authorites can soon solve all three of these cases so that the families can at least gain some real closure.

Good point. Violent murderers would never break the law.

I would consider getting a gun for my house and a taser for my purse. I think it's hard to do in CA though.

The only thing is that if I were, say, sleeping... how long would it take me to wake up, realize someone was in my home, load my gun, and then be ready to shoot before they retaliated?

Anyone remember the story of the 6 year old boy whose mother died and when he called 911 repeatedly and said he mom wasn't waking up, they scolded him and told him to stop playing on the phone? I heard the 911 call and he didn't do anything wrong or suspicious at all.

Very difficult as a California State citizen for a CCW, getting a handgn for your home and a Taser that's doable. I don't know if California law prevents citizens from carrying Tasers concealed, however.

California has a magazine restriction to 10 rounds for semi autos, there are ranges out there where you can receive instruction and try several rentals to find one you are comfortable with.

You can have a handgun loaded and ready to protect yourself, as well as safe from guests or burgulars if you are not home.

One of these opens in seconds even in the dark.

Kinda missing my point. My chances are GREATLY lowered and having a gun in my posession to protect myself would just get me arrested as well anyway.

No worries there with me, I sleep with a 1911 under the pillow (safety on of course!), and I have a fairly large dog (pit mix) that will throw a FIT if someone that doesn't live here, or I let in comes in this house to warn me.

For all those out there who do not feel the need to have a gun. I say good for you. In the neighborhood I grew up in when we called 911 we were lucky if they got there in 20 min without repeated calls. The college I went to allowed a fucktard rapist to troll the campus for a good year before they even stoped writing parking tickets and stepped up patrols instead. I once witnessed a guy jacking off in the library and the university police threatened me with charges for calling them repeatedly. I could name numerous other incidents in my life were 911 or the police was for shit. This is why I own a gun. I practice with in a a range every other week. I have lessons once a month on it and other firearms. Twice in my life I have had to get ready to possibly defend myself. Once with a burglar scoping my home, and the other with a guy trying to follow me home. I am glad I did not have to fire in theses situations. But I do not think I would be here if I did not know how to defend myself.
