    Default Moving Boxes Question

I'm moving and I need boxes. Besides that it's a pain in the ass, gas is $4/gallon and I don't know if I should run around town to pick up people's used boxes (none of the craigslist ads were exactly down the street and there's no guarantee that someone else hadn't gotten there before me). Waaaaa! Is it really worth it? Are new boxes expensive? Any box-collecting tips?

    I frickin hate moving.

^Should I sneak around their dumpsters or just go in and ask? Did they come with top flaps or were they open?

I've always gotten mine from grocery stores. The ones around here do their unpacking overnight and then crush the boxes in the morning so I had to get there before 6am to get them. I just asked a few kids that were working and they said it was fine if I would just go around to the back of the store early in the morning.

It is all a choose The last time that I moved and for what I think well be a upcoming move I went and well go back to Home Depot. I found that having them all the same size and the time that I saved that I get to use for packing made up for the cost. Then as you brought up I also felt a lot better knowing that they where clean inside about out. I found everything that goes with moving to be stressful so spending a few dollars to keep this down was well worth it to me but that was a choice that I made. Having all of the boxs the same made the job so much easer when it was time to load them on the truck. No mater where you get your box's get several Pens and mark where it came from like Bath and so. Trust me that few mins to label them well make a huge difference in what the other side of the move well be worth it and again well lower the stress and the time for the move in a ton

I think that it was about 80 cents but that was 7 years ago Here is what they have listed on line for chooses the store should be pretty close and yes they are a lot more money now. (I wonder if the ex still has a stack of them around the house) I well need between 10 and 15 for my move I think. Also harbor Freight has tape guns with 6 rolls of tape most of the time pretty cheap. See if you have one buy you. This well help a lot also.

I got all my moving boxes from the grocery store I worked with. They WILL save them for you if you call.

I rember working in retail, we crushed our boxes and put them out back in bundles for the trash guy. People would come and cut open the bundles to try and take boxes. It was horribly annoying, especially when they could have just come and and asked for boxes!

    Yeah, call and ask first.
Produce boxes are very sturdy and big enough to fit enough stuff and small enough to not be too heavy to lift. I literally moved last month with a bunch of lemon and apple boxes.

Worst case scenario: Everyone says no and you have to stalk the buildings and steal them.

I moved recently! Hooray for a prettier change of scenery! I just called one of my local grocery stores, asked to speak with management and asked them if I could take their boxes behind the store. Usually they don't mind, but I felt safer asking!

Also, if you're working at a club with alcohol, ask them. they'll often give you the liquor boxes if you ask, that's how I moved last time.

if you buy boxes from u haul , any that are left they will buy back. Im too lazy to try to run around to grocery stores, etc. I go to uhaul.com and pre order from my local store, last time i moved it was less than 200 bucks for a 3000 sq foot home's worth of boxes...pretty good.

^ U-Haul is the only way to go. They have boxes in every conceivable size and shape, they are very easy to assemble and the little bastards will hold a low-yield thermonuclear weapon.

The latter was for comparison purposes only.

The last time I spent about $300 on boxes, but couldn't sell them back because they were sent all over the country. But they sure smelled nice when they arrived.

When I moved cross country, I ordered all sizes of boxes from here. They are delivered to your door via ups, although I lived in the ghetto and had to actually go pick them up.

try calling a local GNC store, that what i did. Im sure the people working would be glad to not have to break the boxes down! The shipments they get can be around 100 boxes and you dont have to worry about there being food spills any thing like that

If you have an eBay account you can get FREE boxes.

    http://ebaysupplies.usps.com/

They are a PERFECT size (the 12x8x12) for moving, not too big they are super heavy, but not too small they don't hold shit.

I think you can order 25 of each size a day, so that's what I did and the skinnier ones I use as gift boxes for shirts and stuff for b-days. Hey, they are free, I want them and I will use them in SOME way, lol!

I also give the kiddos about 5 boxes of each type, tons of tape, and markers and send them out on the porch during the summer; they are busy and having fun ALL DAY LONG!!! (yes with just boxes!) =)

I try and get my moving boxes from Staples or a bookstore. You have to go early to get them (call!) but they handle heavy bunches of books, which is most of what I move.
