I don't know how recent this news is, but I couldn't even recognize Jessica due to her drastic weight loss. She lost over 300 lbs without surgery.

In the clip, Jessica's mother mentioned that she was hungry even as a baby. Although they didn't mention a medical diagnosis, I still think that it was Prader-Willi syndrome. I've seen some pretty obese kids, but I don't think that most of them could get up to that level even if it involved lard and a gavage tube.

I'm glad that the mom realized that spoiling the kid was only endangering her health, and I hope that Jessica is able to live a pretty healthy life.

I've worked with kids with Prader-Willi syndrome. Arguably, they really can't stop eating and require a lifetime effort to control it. Sucks. I hope they find a genetic cure for it one day.

Yep, it's a real tragedy, and I can understand that it's painful for parents to see their kids cry in hunger. That hunger is downright destructive and dangerous.

Oh I am so glad! But can't she grow in to her skin? Yes it's s serious question, I know it can't be entirely but I mean she will grow right?

I want to know how her mother expects her kid to eat healthy and exercise when she so obviously doesn't. Lead by example ya know?

    I was wondering that, too.

Why cut off the excess skin if she has another 12 inches to grow upward and 12 inches to grow outward?

Well...by looking at the mother...she should have known that

I wonder what the difference is between Prader Willi and "Mom eats everything under the sun all day long and so do I".

    Seriously!

They stocked up the fridge with all kinds of crap and wonder why the kid wants to eat it all day?
    It's terrible.

But good for the little girl. I'm sure buckling down and working out/dieting as a little girl takes some serious will power.

^^^ No. Its a specific disorder and its hard to understand unless you've taken care of a child that cries and cries in pain when they're hungry, even though they just ate. I think the external pressure helped to curb Jessica's temper tantrums and made it easier for her mom to tell her no. Maybe she shouldn't have been feeding her snacks like apples and yogurt as a kid instead of burgers and fries, but for some people that's a normal way of life and it was difficult for her to fight the constant battle.

I don't see why they wait for her to grow into her skin either and if I was the mother I'd have taken her daughter going to PT and a clinic as a catalyst to getting help myself.

Good for the girl though. She's a real cutie!

    1) That's 20 lbs of excess skin, which is an extra 20 lbs on her little frame. Any extra weight on a frame too small to support it is extra stress on bones, joints, etc.
    2) Extra skin chafs. If you think that having your thighs rub together sometimes is a pain, try all that extra skin.
    3) She probably won't grow as much as other kids, as sever obesity probably took a toll on her body and caused permanent damage to her bones.

    Hat:

So you're predicting that there'll be no effect as her skin stretches over her growing bones?

No, she will probably grow into some of it, but excess skin is excess skin and will have to be removed for a reason. I don't know how tall she is, but they say that she lost 300 lbs, and 420-300=100, which is still a bit much for someone of her height, plus she's probably short from all that weight stunting her growth. Another 20 lbs would take off a bit more weight and give her body a chance to heal from the stress and maybe grow upward.

Again, excess skin chafs. On Discovery Health, I saw a woman who had drastically lost weight and was running marathons, but the chafing of the skin was preventing her form completing them. When I say chafing, I mean down through some layers that looked raw and ouchy. Skin folds also trap sweat and can cause itching and breakdown. So therefore, it's probably beneficial to remove a lot of the skin.

Yeah, it's on a sex site, but the video plays. Maybe you don't have the right codec.

Does the video play immediately, or is there a particular link on the site?
I keep getting distracted by the various monkey spanking opportunities...
