    Default Massage Heaven

I guess you could say I am a massage connoiseur... its the one thing I splurge on. I buy the generic brands at wal-mart, I never buy myself new stuff unless I REALLY need it and its on sale... but massage I think is necessary for survival. My back's messed up from dancing so many years so it always hurts even when I just do a lot of walking.

Anyway, I've gotten many good massages, a lot of great massages, and a few so-so.

But every once in a while you come across somebody who has "a gift." I've found 3 that attain this status of "massage god." One was a nice kid (maybe 20) but he had a meth problem and I lost touch with him, and one was an ex-boyfriend. This one works for a professional business so you never have to worry about a masseuse acting inappropriately. They would probably get fired just for flirting with you... He's a nice guy- doesn't speak english very well but very polite and respectful. I felt horrible all day and now I feel like maybe, just maybe everything is going to be ok again.

If it ever came down to it... I think I would let the bank foreclose my house before I gave up my weekly massages. God, thank you for creating such amazingly talented people. I am a happy girl now.

This is so funny to me that I came upon this thread. I wanted a massage SO BAD today and already got one last Sunday ( mmhmm .. only 5 days ago ... ). I was going to write in body business " is it selfish to get 2 pro massages in the same week ? " .

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who truly appreciates WONDERFUL massage time.

I tried a session 8 years ago and even as a starving student got them.

I think I'm going to bump up from every few weeks to every two weeks.

I feel emotionally realigned and life seems " fair " again after I get a good one . It seems to balance out all the stuff that I don't want to deal with.

How do you find a good place for a massage? Do you have to take all your clothes off?

Sasha : No, you don't have to undress any more than you feel comfortable. I left my undies on for my first one. Try a day spa ( a little more pricy , but then you can do the amenities like sauna ect. and really celebrate your first one ) ! Just google " massage faqs " or something to learn more !

I get mine from a mix of this nice massage school in Salt Lake and an established ( i.e. expensive ) therapist that works with hot stones . The guy who works with the oiled hot stones holds them in his hands the whole time ( he gets new rocks every 5-10 minutes or so ) . It's pretty amazing . His massages last 70 minutes supposedly, but I've looked at the clock before and know he adds time on too ( usually they are 80-90 minutes ! ) . Just total bliss . I get really zoned out mid-way and can barely form thoughts. You NEED TRY MASSAGE to know what I'm talking about !

Bump! I was just going to start a new thread, but searched and found this one. I'm considering doing weekly massage. I'm unmotivated and just feeling shitty lately and thought that maybe I'd try holistic stuff before getting overly anxious. I'm dealing with more stress than usual ( living situation changing , may have to find another part time job, hating many aspects of my day job that I used to love ) .

Bellasara: I'm answering a year and a half later, but I find that licensed theapist are better than student ones around 80% of the time. You'll usually get awesome student where I go, but occasionally ( only a few times in 8 years ) , I sort of sat there going " well .... I could have just rubbed lotion on myself " .

So ..... has anyone else tried a month or so of going weekly ? Did it help you feel better on a general less pissed off at life level ? Or do you go because of an injury and not just to destress ?

You can often get discount massages at a local massage school!!! True, the students aren't yet professionals but most of them are pretty good. I buy packs of gift certificates that cost anywhere from $32 a peice to $16 a peice. With a ten dollar tip that's a $26 massage.

Yep. I am in Salt Lake now and the one I go to is $22.50 an hour and I always tip 5-10, so it's VERY affordable! I guess I should just try it and see if it helps me feel better consistently. I feel my energy level going UP just thinking about it and I want to end this sluggish energy level I've had lately.

I'm a member of Massage Envy which has spas all over the country. Its $59 a month which includes an hour massage(and it carries over...so if you dont use it one month, you get 2 hrs next month...you dont lose it) and every one hr after that all month is $39. Two of the best masseuses I've ever had have been here. One left, sadly and I dont know where she went. But the guy I go to now is wonderful. Gets the knots out, has fixed pinched nerves and spasming muscles..and actually LISTENS to what I say. If I say my neck and shoulders are really bad..he'll spend 45 min out of the hr working on my neck and shoulders. Which is HUGE to me. I've had tons of massages where they asked if there was any area you wanted them to concentrate on ....and then just went through their full body routine as usual anyway. If I want the whole hr on my neck and shoulders...THATS WHAT I WANT!!!

I wish I could afford to go every week.I live for my monthly massages! Which reminds me...its time for one now!! YAY!! I'm going to make an appt ASAP!

I get massages every 2 weeks! I LOVE them. I think they're especially
helpful for dancers. I always tell them to concentrate on my feet extra, and it helps a lot. I always leave feeling so wonderful. I finally found a great massage therapist that I request. His massages feel like they last forever.
