    Default $1,250 for a book?

Mark Z. Danielewski is my favorite author. I loved House of Leaves - but even that was a bit tricky to get hold of. So, I've been trying to get The Fifty Year Sword, and the prices range from wow to almost reasonable.

Unless it's a text book I'm having trouble justifying the price.
I really hope there's another edition soon.

That's crazy. Why is it so much? Out of print or something?

that's kinda funny on a site where folks think nothing of spending 200 bucks on a bikini, or 800 on a purse...

i read classics lately, so i wouldn't pay that sum for that author, but there are those i would fork over 1200 and more for.

plus you can read it and sell it again, or read it and make a copy and then sell it again.

used.addall.com compares all the sites for particular titles...look there

I have a few books in the 1k range in my collection...collectible books are worth what people will pay. If it's likely to go up in value over time, the price is generally steep.

At that cost, you should have a minimum of one orgasm with every page turn.

I say save up and buy it. My weakness is always books on or by the Dadaists, specifically Tristan Tzara. I have broke the bank more than once buying those books but its what makes me happy. House of Leaves was a great book. If Danielewski's your guy, go for it.

^ Signed first editions may well be dime a dozen...it's wholly dependent upon the author and the book. Some authors go on signing sprees while on tour, and you're hard pressed to find an unsigned copy. The above is listed as 1 of 51, but for a 2005, and the author is still alive...meh. I'd go for the less expensive unsigned version, and use the extra 1k to stalk him
