    Default Scientology (raising a kid)

I was reading a gossip rag article on who else, but Suri Cruise. I was a bit stunned to see her still clutching a bottle but even more taken aback because she's given Barley water and not breast milk or formula. Which got me to thinking.

Even having lived in L.A. & NYC I've never ever once been approached by a follower of the religion. So, I literally know only what the media tells me and once I had a friend who had been a scientologist yet "escaped" and told me how they basically chase you down and why people commit suicide all the time. It was a very fucked up story, that I do believe. However, aside from her story and random tidbits I'm fed through the media I know a generalized mess of nothing.

I googled up their child raising ideals and also the barley water formula (which I was interested in knowing since it seems to be ALL that a baby is fed) Does anyone here know if their children are fed anything else other than this water for 3 years? It seems as though they aren't.

Also, as far as their rules go for raising a kid...for the most part it makes sense but only in a perfect very sheltered world. Which defeats their entire purpose.

Here's the info I found...thoughts or knowledge of the fundamentals? I'm wondering if there are actual concrete info that's out there and not all horror stories.

    First the Barley water

    Second, raising a child

And my friend whom I was speaking about, she said the reason so many people get involved or at least in her opinion is because in LA they offer "free acting workshops". So, basically you are broke and a starving artist. They offer free workshops to help better your acting career. She said intermixed with that was guilt trips like "well we gave you thousands of dollars worth of free classes, please attend our seminar ..it's the least you can do" and then there were the FREE personality tests. She said during the FREE personality test it has a section where you write down your biggest regrets and sins. She expected them to throw it away but instead she said they put it in her file, and after she told them she was spooked by how things were going they became aggressive stating she owed them money etc. Anyways, she felt that the section where you had to confess your sins was blackmail enough for many people.

I think that this interview may be of interest to you.

Jason Beghe, long time Scientologist and famous TV actor, defects and talks about how stupid scientology is. Says he spent probably almost a million dollars on scientology and feels like a dumbass.
He was almost on-level with Tom Cruise.

Thank you I'm bored, stealing the neighbors wireless signal so I'm doing all the reading I can on things I know zero about in an attempt to keep my mind off tomorrow.

There's a really good article on Scientology by Janet Reitman in Rolling Stone here:

I recently found out that Beck is a Scientologist. Which is totally unexpected, right? I was sad for a few days, but I still want to fuck the shit out of him.

I know that has nothing to do with Barley water.

Oh, but what is up with all that silent childbirth nonsense? LIke, the mom in labor is not allowed to make noise? FUCK. THAT.

My great Grandmother was into Scientology. She died like, 10 years ago when she was 98 years old. Anyway - she had been a follower of that religion for many years. I remember finding her books when we cleaned out her house aftr she died.

I think they are all nuts personally. Why can't yu feed your kid breast milk? Why's it gotta be barley water?
The article says you cant feed breast mlk because most mothers are smokers or over stressed and this makes bad milk.

But the article also says that to make the barley water you can use honey. But You are not supposed to give honey to a baby under 1 year of age I believe.

I was disappointed when I found out he was one of them too. Hot guys with talent aren't allowed to be Scientologists

So I just read the article in rollingstone that was posted here. Took me an hour. Like I said, I have NOTHING to do so I welcomed the read. First off, it is a really well written article. The way it was written allowed me the chance to form my own opinion along the way as well understand the basics of the religion itself.

Beck and Juliette Lewis as well as the guy that owns vice (can't think of his name at the moment) are all born into it, and practicing from what I gather.

When I read the article about the barley water my first thought was "honey isn't to be given to a baby!!" it's bad for their health. I found that odd.

I think the basis of the "audits" is sort of a new age confessional. Personally I wish therapy was more that than meds half the time. I'm one of those people I'm not convinced should be treated with meds rather than good ole teachings of therapy skills. As I don't have a chemical imbalance but PTSD. However, if these audits were FREE I believe less people would be inclined to think it's all a scam. They are doing themselves a disservice by charging upwards of 4,000 for "therapy" and balking at the claims that they are conning people out of money. Then again (playing the devils advocate here) they are still a business and who can put a price on a clear conscious? It's a grand hustle in self help.

I'm neither fore nor against in the knowledge I know. I did take away some food for thought from the article though.

I just sat here and re read that article did some thinking... and they made mention how the story of Xenu was leaked in 1995 from a higher up that was no longer with them but the actual "answer" in the manilla folder wasn't leaked or read..and that most people die after reading it ..had me thinking..

Is this what they based Vanilla Sky aka "open your eyes" off of? Umm that Tom Cruise was in. Amazing movie both the Spanish and English version. It's pretty haunting.

Are you shitting me right now? You can't have human milk but you can have barley water?! That crap isn't nutritious! And they feed that from birth?

Yes, let's give corn syrup/honey to a newborn. If the botulism doesn't get them, the explosive diarrea will. Corn syrup is a pretty nasty laxative for babies. Not to mention the lactose intolerance/allergies from the whole cows milk. At least commercial infant formulas supply nutrients. The sheer stupidity of that made me all ranty. Can't feed them something healthy like breast milk or formula but they can have barley. Lovely.

Scientologists are freaky. There used to be a cult of them around the corner from where I worked and they would always harass us while we were smoking. What a weird bunch they were. I lied and said I was Catholic to get them to go away.

I got so into the other articles I didn't look further into the barley water. I am not a holistic person so I don't know anything at all about it. I was hoping someone here could shed some light.

Honestly I've read of and seen freaker cults. I'm just only weirded out by the child raising part of it. Just in the feeding aspect. Also I dont understand the need for "audits' if they children are raised properly by the parents as instructed.

Oh hell, there's always freakier cults. They're just not as "mainstream" as the Scientologists are.

And the hell anyone would "audit" me and tell me how to raise my child. Or feed her unsafe barley water exclusively for three years. That shit is child abuse.

The Tom Cruise is stuck in the closet episode of south park where they make fun of scientologists is so funny esp the writing scrolling across the screen saying "this is what scientologists actually believe".

    Hi.

Scientology has a lot of weird, harmful practices, besides the barley water thing. But if you're interested in where that came from, here's a quote from the inventor of Scientology himself: L. Ron Hubbard.

"Actually I recalled further than that. Roman troops marched on barley.
Barley is the highest protein content cereal. And from a deep past I
    called up a formula."

In other words, the Scientologist barley baby formula is based on LRH's supposed past life memories of having been a Roman. As opposed to, say, all of modern medical science. Never mind the fact that such a formula can cause scurvy, since it doesn't contain necessary nutrients like vitamin C. Never mind that it doesn't support a baby's immune system like a mother's own breast milk does. Never mind that giving a baby honey (another ingredient in the mix) can cause botulism. Never mind that the Romans never used this abominable formula, despite LRH's claims. Scientologists believe in it and use it, because LRH said to. I wouldn't be surprised if Suri secretly has health problems because of it.

If you want to learn more about how the "Church" of Scientology abuses kids, check out this expose from Nightline , .
Or just log on to exscientologykids(dot)com and read their stories for yourself.

    Peace.

The biggest mistake you will ever make in regards to scientology is thinking , bah just another weird cult.

Its an organisation that purposefully is digging its tentacles into governments, into law enforcement, drug rehabilitation and education through front groups. It recieves special tax exemptions which no other religion gets, via a undisclosed backroom deal with the IRS that breaks constitutional law. An organisation which has for the past 20 years, knowingly exposed anyone to visit their ship, the freewinds, to cancer causing blue asbestos, because L RON HUBBARD never said asbestos was dangerous. It is an organisation, which using the word religion as a shield, destroys the lives of anyone who stands up against it or attempts to expose it. On feburary 10th, that changed forever.

    Keywords. In this case, Scientology.
Someone mentioned Anonymous here, a few months back. Speak of the devil.
