Default well, I'm doing it! (going vegan)

I've been vegetarian for years, and have been thinking about going vegan for awhile, but hadn't actually made an attempt at it. It was always kind of a "well, I could...someday..." thing in the back of my mind.

When I first became vegetarian, it wasn't really a conscious thing that I had to work at. Something just suddenly clicked over in my mind one day--I looked at the meat on my plate and randomly felt like vomiting at the thought of eating it. From then on, meat just never seemed like food to me--I never thought of meat as an edible possibility or had any cravings for it. Maybe I'm weird.

And now the same thing happened tonight with the boiled egg in my dinner salad. I ate a few pieces of the egg and felt disgusted, and just turned off from eating it. Like all of a sudden, I randomly thought "wtf am I doing eating boiled chicken embryos?" (Sorry to be gross But that's just what popped into my head.)

So I guess my mind and/or body is telling me it's a good time to go vegan. I'm going to post updates as I go along, cause there have been quite a few veganism threads here in the past, so just in case anyone else is curious about going vegan and would like to read one person's experience...

Any tips anyone has on nutrition, tasty vegan dishes or ingredients, etc. would be greatly appreciated too!

Good website and they have an awesome forum if you are interested. If youdo a google search, you'll find a ton of vegan recipes and blogs. I'm not a vegan but I've taken a liking to baking vegan cakes, which I've gotten from a bunch of these blogs.

I became vegan in February because I have really bad acne & I read dairy may cause more acne & since I was already vegetarian, I decided to go all out & become a vegan. Lemme tell ya, I've never been happier!! I use to get really bad stomach aches like once a week & they would hinder me at work & social life but since February, I haven't had a single stomach ache & my acne has died down. I have scars & I'm not 100% clear but it is WAYYYY better than before

i used to dream militant dreams / of taking over america / to show these white folks how it should be done
i used to dream radical dreams / of blowing everyone away / with my perceptive powers of correct analysis
i even used to think / id be the one to stop the riot and negotiate the peace / then i awoke and dug
that if i dreamed natural dreams / of being a natural woman
doing what a woman does / when shes natural
    i would have a revolution

yay...cookbook recommendations! I looked on amazon and about 375234852348 books came up. I was like "um...ok...which ones are actually good...?" I'll definitely check some of those out.

I actually hate cake, but I'm intrigued by the idea of making a vegan cake! Maybe I'll make it for my family and not tell them it's vegan until after they eat it and rave about it.

haha, my boyfriend HATES all things cake too!
but he actually likes some of the vegan cupcakes that i make. (although he doesn't know that they are vegan..shhh). i think the key is to try the more exciting cake/cupcake recipes (flavor-wise) and you may find one that is interesting enough to downplay the 'cake factor'. plus they are soo fun to decorate. (i'm outing my nerdiness here...)

i made a vegan cake shaped like a shark for my nephews birthday, with candycorn teeth (which i don't believe are vegan..but...)

I dont really have anything to say other than, once you get the hang of it (like everything) it's really easy and second nature. I don't even think about recipes or anything when i cook anymore, and i'm a really good cook if I do say so myself. It's fun to experiment with raw vegan recipes too-- I find that it's hard to be creative with vegan recipes now that I've got everything down-- raw is more of a challenge

awesome! I have been vegan for about five years, and also bake vegan wedding cakes, so let me know if you're ever in a tight spot and I'll share a recipe or two!
I have run into a number of issues on the journey to healthy veganism, and I would suggest scanning amazon for a good primer on vegan health and nutritional requirements. B12, is often the most touted supplement for vegans- although your liver has enough to supply you for the next 4 years if you have been eating vegetarian. Keep your eye on getting enough absorbable Iron (Vitamin C helps with absorbtion, caffeine blocks it), calcium, vitamin K, Iodine, and B6 to name a few. Good luck!
