    Default Seaweed Salad Recipe

So, after eating this from a Chinese restaurant and not knowing the nutritional content, I thought I'd try to make my own w/the help of internet recipes. Of course, mine tasted nothing like theirs, but it was still pretty good!

It's pretty healthy, filling, and very rich in taste. Also, supposedly seaweed has these great health benefits!

    Recipe:

3/4 oz. seaweed (I use a little more)
1 teaspoon sugar (I use equal)
1-3 tablespoons sesame oil (I try to use 1 so it's healthier)
1-2 tablespoons rice vinegar (not seasoned - no sodium/fat/salt/cals)
red flakes (chili flakes or something similar - as many as you want)
minced garlic - as much as you want/don't want
    cilantro - dash
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (I use as many as I want)

they also say to use soy sauce, but they said to use 3 tablespoons, which was way too much. it tasted fine w/out it.

anyway, cut up the seaweed and make sure it's not dry. soak it in water for a few minutes if you have to, making sure to drain it well. mix up all of the other ingredients until the sugar/equal has dissolved. mix latter mixture into seaweed and enjoy!

I went to this store called Wegmans to get my seaweed. I think they use wakame seaweed to make that...so I bought that kind, but mine doesn't look that bright...

It's a big store with lotsa stuff you can't get at normal grocery stores - at least it seems that way to me. Some people refer to it as a more upscale grocery store.

    www.wegmans.com

Unfortunately, they're only on the east coast, so there are none in San Diego, but I'm sure there's somewhere that has something similar, especially w/all the sushi craze. Many, if not all, places that have sushi offer miso soup as an appetizer. The miso soup has seaweed in it. If all else fails, you might be able to go to a chinese/japanese restaurant and ask if they recommend anywhere to buy asian food nearby.

Thanks for the recipe. I love seaweed salad! You can also buy seaweed in Asian groceries but alot of it sold there is imported from China and their environment is pretty polluted so if you eat much of it, I wouldn't reccommend it. You can also buy seaweed from the healthfood store where it's organic but also more expensive.

I'm so tempted to go to the Asian market by me. But I'm afraid to go there... being non-Asian.

Love, love, love Wegmans!!! It is the only place I shop. I fear moving from this aweful place I live only because I don't want to give up my Wegmans! Haha.
