They say to only take 2, but with some meds its okay to take more than recommended dosage at time....
Would you recommend only sticking to 2 (1000 mgs)?
I know that some docs say you can take double amt of ibuprofen.

Don't double acetomiophen (Tylenol).
It seriously messes your liver up.
I'd only take 1000mg and don't take it more than every 8 hours. If you need something else in about 4 hours try 600mg of ibuprofen.
k, thx for the advice
Acetiminophin does nothing for my cramps. Take 2 Advil, then wait an hour and take 1 - that usually kicks my cramps then I take 1 every few hours to keep them at bay.

I personally like Midol...but some people don't. If I don't have that around I use either tylenol or aleve. Stick to the dose on tylenol. Aleve you can kick start with 2, and then only 1 every 12 hours. DO NOT use 2 every time you take it.
Please don't use Tylenol. Go with the ibuprofen.. it's safer!

Ibuprofen is safer and works MUCH better for muscle pain like cramps.
I'd recommend Ibuprofen, you can take 4 of the 200mg capsules which equals prescription strength. Tynenol is better for a fever IMO and shouldn't be taken for pain as it can damage the liver in large amounts. Just don't drink when you take either of these or you're asking for trouble.

Aleve is all that works for my cramps, and for those who like midol it's just tylenol and/or caffeine and a diuretic. Much cheaper to buy them seperately.

When I had real bad cramps a few days ago, I was told to take 4 Motrin (I think it was 800mg all together) that night and then 2 more the next morning.
So, from that advice - I would think that, yes, you can double up on medication that is over the counter but only do it once a day. But you could always call your doctor to make sure. Call the office and they will at least give the call to one of the nurses.
I used to overdose on acetaminophen because my body got immune to it.. now I take Aleve which is much better.
I hope I didn't damage my liver too much.![]()

Ibuprofen works best for my cramps as well. Even Vicodin couldn't compare.

Ibuprofen works for me but sometimes I have to take a double dose.
If you can put something warm on your stomach, that might help ease some of the pain.

take aleve.
Advil extra strength liqui-gels(ibuprofen) are what I used to take when I got cramps or bad headaches. Because they're liquid in gel capsules I found they worked really fast.
By the way, I'm pretty sure you can take ibuprofen and acetaminophen together safely. Have you tried the sticky disposable heating pads? You can put them on the outside of your underwear for extra help with the cramps.

Naproxen Sodium ie Aleve is very good for cramps. My gyno told me to use this OR to use ibueprofen (god i can't spell!), but tylenol is so bad for your liver. Not that advil is good for you, just not as bad.

From www.drugs.com
"Tylenol is a pain reliever and a fever reducer. It works by lowering a chemical in the brain that stimulates pain nerves and the heat-regulating center in the brain.
Tylenol is used to treat many conditions such as headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers.
Tylenol may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide."
"Ibuprofen is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ibuprofen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Ibuprofen is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or minor injury."
They both work differently in the body. I've always taken Ibuprofen for cramps and muscle related pain and it works for me. Although a caution because I take btwn 600-800 every 6 hours when I have pain.
