Default 18 and ready to dance!!!

hi, I'm TIffany. I'm 18 years old. I'm hoping to start dancing very soon. I think the type of atmosphere clubs have would be a great fit for me. I don't wanna go to college so I do need something with decent income since I'll be out of school.

I recently told my mom about wanting to do this and she told me that she actually did this years ago when I was really young. I had no idea! So she's told me some of the tips on being careful but of course it's been years since she danced so a lot of tips are still needed.

Well talk to you all soon!

Welcome! I highly recommend looking around and checking out a lot of the sticky threads first. You'll learn a lot that way! Best of luck.

if you're looking for info on the industry stay in the top half of the threads. I.E., stripping general and sometimes body business. A lot of the stuff in the lounge, is well...lounge talk. We are a tight nit community, and we are protective of each other and respectful of one another's opinions. So at times we talk like a big group of friends, but we all have different ideas. It's about a balance here. Stick to where you're comfortable, be respectful and don't start "shit" with people on here. Just a word to the wise.
Most of all enjoy yourself and feel free to asks questions in the appropriate location.
    Happy strippering!!!

Yea, well she made great money so she knows the benefits too it but of course knows what to be careful of. It's all coming back now. The days when I was like 7 years old putting on her big heels and wondering why her underwear was so much different than other womans lol.

I have said it before and Ill say it again - I honestly think 18 is way too young to dance but if youre going to do it - do it right. Check out ALL parts of this website INCLUDING the Dollar Den.

ETA: I started at 18... but was stupid with my earnings - which is why I recommend to wait or do it right!

Hi Tiffany, I started dancing at 18, but it's not right for everyone at that age. Like ajbaer and AudreyLeigh mentioned, be sure to read through lots of the "sticky" threads for info on commonly asked questions, like what to expect, what to wear, how to audition, etc.

    Good luck!

    Hi!

I started dancing at 18, and I just turned 26. Let me give you some advice:

Go to college or find some degree / training that will help you get a job l8r. This is not a forever job.

I actually have a college degree, but its not in a very practical field and I need to go back to school for something else. You don't want to be in my position, honestly. This is the time in my life I should be starting a career and I have nothing to put on my resume except stripper/bartender/..... it's pretty scary!!

other than that, have fun, save at least 1/2 the money you make and don't take drugs.

    best of luck!

I wish I had started at 18 (started at 19) and I also wish I had maximized my earnings and saved when I was younger. I am 23 and just now starting to save/be smart with my money. Definitely take advantage of the great resource of stripperweb, and be smart with your money, so you won't be like so many of the rest of us, saying "I wish I'd saved more when I was younger."
I also think getting a degree is a good idea, maybe even just do something at the community college, so you have something to fall back on after dancing.

Yes... please have some sort of backup plan. It's easy to be very gung-ho about being a stripper when you first start out, but there is a very small percentage of women who are just meant to be "super strippers", but even they get burnt out sometimes too.

ETA: You can make great money dancing, but you will have shit nights where you barely break even, or can even be in the hole. Be smart with your money as well.

Good luck! Please save money for a rainy day! And you should try a tech school also. They have programs that are like a year and so worth it. I think it's good you're starting young tho!

Just wanted to add to this great bunch of advice-please read stuff like this:

It might be a little shocking to a new dancer, but you need to know what you can run into and how to not feel forced to do extras. This does depend on where you work, but it's good to know how to say no.

    Also-don't do extras!

    Hey all
so I've been browsing around your site and This seemed to be the best place to start my posting
My name is Iris and Im currently getting all my stuffs in order to start dancing soon .. gonna start with freelancing till i get the hang of it. I see that most ( if not all ) of you ladies are from the states - my self im from Ontario- so the laws and what not may be different .. but this looks like a really great place for advice and support and all that greatness ...

The club that Im thinking of going to is a strict no contact club and after being there a few times it doesnt look to .. sketchy.. and I have a few people here that have danced before but i was more wondering what words of wisdom you guys may have for me

Im not too scared on the dancing front - that part has been a part of my life since a was a girl ..so the whole dancing infront of people taking off my clothes .. Im kinda shrugging at .. i guess lol

Its the whole hussling people thing.. yeah okay I did just finish 2 semesters at a really crappy call centre job ( nothing like calling people that you dont know and asking for money) so i guess i have some experience with the whole sales thing .. but i wasnt really comfortable with it .. and i *know* thats a huge part of this industry ..

oh i sorta hinted to it . im currently ( well not CURRENTLY as it is summer) in school doing my BA major in psych . so this would really be something so i can have a lil money for the summer but MOSTLY its me saving up money to do my masters one day *crosses fingers*

wow that was ALOT of me talking

    anyways
glad to have found this place on the crazy internets

    *cheers*
    *E*

I also started when I was 18, and I haven't regretted a moment of it. But I know why I haven't! My advice (from experience):

    1) Make sure you're in a good place, mentally, when you start. Only you know what this feels like--everyone is different.

    2) Make sure you feel confidant about your own personal morals/ethics, etc.--customers will constantly try to convince you (implicitly and explicitly) that strippers are crap, so you have to know who you are before you walk into that environment to protect yourself from self-esteem issues, etc.

    3) Be very aware of some of the dangers/pitfalls involved in dancing (everything from overspending to fucking up your knees). Don't say to yourself "I'm above all of that!"--these are the girls who end up in bad situations.

Be as informed as possible. And don't let the glorified stripper mindset take over your life (Wow! I'm the SHIT!). Stay close to your family--they're the ones who will know if the job ever starts changing you for the worse.

    And...have fun!

    Glenda--

When I started, I hadn't EVER taken my clothes off in front of anyone before, and I was so shy that I'd sit at the bar all night just so I wouldn't have to talk to anyone! But working there has helped me develop my social skills like crazy in the most painless way possible (in strip clubs, people PAY you to develop your social/hustling skills!!)

Trust me, if I could fall into the swing of things, you can too! Once you see money coming your way, you'll be amazed at all of the fascinating things that come out of your mouth!!

Best of luck to ya, I started a couple months ago when I was finishing up high school. Best thing I can tell ya is to stay focused and be prepared for surprises they will happen. Thats cool that your Mom knows you dance, mine is still in the dark; at least I think so. I have saved up a lot for college its hard not to just go out and spend it all. Make goals for yourself and stick to them in the dollar amount, tell yourself you will put away at least 30-40% for school if not more.

18 is kind of young, but as long as you don't get caught up in the lifestyle you should be okay. By that I mean, drinking, partying and spending every dime on expensive stuff you don't need.

Don't drink to excess at work.

Be aware that the managers, bouncers, bartenders WILL try to sleep with you, they may even try to get you wasted to lower your standards.

Decide on a set amount that comes out of every nights money and take it out and bank it before you do anything else.

Be prepared for rude custies, some guys are not as polite as you might want them to be. It takes very high self esteem to make it as a dancer and even then it can get you down at times.

Take care of yourself. Your looks are how you make your money. Don't take them for granted because you are young. The girls that do that look busted way to early.

Have fun dancing on stage. Guys really seem to be able to tell and it will make a difference in your money.

    Best of Luck!
    Jasmine
