    Default Demi Permanant Color

    Dear Hair Goddesses of SW,

    Help!

I'm trying to do my roots again myself today. My hair is all just a jet black 1N. Naturally I'm a sandy blonde.

I have two options. I have a Wella Color Charm and the activating lotion or I have Vivitone permanent color with a 10vol. I've been using the permanant color for a few months and it works well. My hair always comes out the same shade of black.

My problem though is that since I'm doing it alone I get the color almost all over my hair every time and it seems likes its damaging it. I try just to get it on my roots but inevitably it ends up elsewhere. Sooooo, I thought I'd try demi this time. I'm planning on going to my hair colourist next month to have her do it right and maybe start adding some dark brown highlights in. I figure I can slowly start adding in brown and maybe dyeing my roots brown while having the black underneath so its not such a drastic damaging change. For now though, I need to try and fix it today.

Is demi going to be able to turn blonde hair black though? I'm worried about ending up with green hair or something weird.

Is it a cream dye? If the demi is a creamy consistency dye then yes it should work fine.... liquid dye not so much.

I'd call it creamy. Cool! I'm so hair ignorant. I'm probably the last person that should be doing their own hair but I figure how many emo high school kids manage to dye their own hair black? I should be able to do this.

I'm still to chicken to try the demi.

I keep reading that going from blonde to black requires a filler color so it doesn't turn out green. Anyone had this problem?

Anytime you're going three shades are more darker you are should use a filler which usually is a demi. I mean if your hair is black all over with the exception of your roots and doesn't look transparent then I'd just go with the demi on the new growth. Demi does appear a shade darker though so I'd get a shade lighter than the permanant you used.

I'm surprised you get it on all over though without missing a spot. If you do get the demi on the rest of your hair and the rest of your hair is actually "black" then it shouldn't hurt anything. It'll probably make it more opaque.

Use the Wella if you can get it with it's activator.

    Thanks!!!

I chickened out this time and used my old Vivitone. Next time I'll try the Wella demi though on my roots. If it goes a shade darker...even better! If it doesn't work I can always dye over it.

The only time I got a green tinge was when I went to a medium ashy brown. Black is just black.

If you put your hair up in a high bun leaving a little bit down all around the start of your hairline, like when you really meticulously straighten your hair and just let a little bit down each time it is possible to just do the roots. Thats what I try to do and it USUALLY works...ahah.

I always forget what color I die my hair, Black, brown black, blackest brown...and it always turns out fine (actually I hear a compliment on it every day, seriously) and i have blond hair too.

    You should be fine
