Default WARNING: Zoom Whitening, thumbs down!

I got Zoom whitening done today, and I would never, ever recommend it to anyone ever.

I'm in horrible pain. It feels like I'm getting stabbed in the teeth with icy razors. I'm drooling. I can't talk because that means there will be air coming in and out of my mouth, and that makes the icy stabbing feeling come back. I can't go to work tonight because I CANNOT TALK. I'm crying.

It might be worth all this pain and $400 if it had done something... but my teeth aren't much whiter than before. Maybe 2 shades. I had comparable results with white strips.

    Lame.

Eek, that sucks. I just started using the whitening trays, I asked for Zoom, and my dentist told me he'd do it but it wasn't worth the price and the whitening trays were better. Glad I listened to him.

Aw, I'm sorry. I had good results with it but I was totally regretting it the first day. It HURTS! I felt infinately better the next day, though.

Zoom Whitening was the best money I ever spent and the best thing I ever did for myself. It hurt like a fucker the first day, but I considered that a small price to pay for a pretty smile that lasts for years and years afterward. My teeth were very badly stained though, so I really needed it; normal bleaching wasn't strong enough.

Use the vitamin E cream if they gave it to you, rinse regularly with warm water, and you should feel better tomorrow. The sensitivity goes away completely in about a week and my teeth are actually less sensitive than they were before. No worries, the pain won't last!

My teeth weren't really stained, just dingy from wine and coffee. When we compared my teeth to the chart they use, my teeth were between B-1 and A-1, one of the lightest shades you'll see in natural adult teeth. Everything after A-1 is a "bleach shade".

I was expecting Bob Barker white because it claims to be able to lift up to 8 shades. I guess I didn't have 8 shades to lift.

    Veneers it is!

What's up with the vitamin e cream?

^before you take the plunge with veneers... Maybe you just went to an incompetent place? I spent less than 300 bucks (penny saver deal). They did three treatments while I was there and even offered another one (the fee was flat-rate, it wouldn't have cost me extra... I just didn't want to look like Ross from Friends). I went about five shades whiter. I know it feels like a bitch, but if whitening is your only concern, I'd urge you not to get veneers and to try it again. Try to get them to cut you a deal if you're unsatisfied with your outcome.

I got the Zoom done three years ago and I was so disappointed with the results. At the time it was $500 (Canadian dollars). I went back to complain and my dentist agreed my teeth pretty much looked the same. She wasn't even sure which was the before/after shot. They didn't refund me, but they gave me an extra whitening kit instead.. I'm pretty lazy with stuff like that, so I didn't even end up using it and it expired.. I don't know if I pushed for a refund they would have done it.. my employer paid for it so I didn't really put up a big fuss, although thinking back, I should have..

I don't remember having much sensitivity though. Sorry to hear about your pain, don't think it will help much but Tylenol 3/demerol might help.. maybe you can ask your dentist to call in a prescription..

I had Zoom as well, and was also in excruciating pain, with minimal results. It's a marketing gimmick; the trays work much, much better.

The pail will go away, but in the meantime, take ibuprofen, brush with Sensodyne, drink lots of water and swish to rehydrate your teeth, and ask your dentist for a tube of office-strength potassium nitrate gel.

oh guys... do NOT whiten your teeth. it is SO bad for them and weakens them.

try using coconut oil which whitens your teeth (and noticeably) or other natural whiteners.

Even stuff you buy at the store is bad? What about whitening toothpaste?

    ^ yup to both.

flouride hurts your teeth and the glycerine in toothpaste keeps the enamel from regrowing.

some people have reported their teeth splitting from the otc whitening stuff, although they already had hairline cracks anyway from what I can remember.

I remember hearing that whitening toothpaste puts itty bitty scratches in your teeth. I can't speak for any other whitening products, though.

i just read someone posting on curezone that whitening your teeth actually makes them more porous and more likely to stain in the future.

good in short term bad in long term is how they put it.

I didn't copy link since they didn't post their source. makes sense to me though.

^I read that Zoom makes them more porous to get out the stains (that's why they get so sensitive), but the floride heals them. I agree that it's not something you should do over and over again, that just seems unhealthy. This is all from stuff I've read online (and we all know that if it's on the internet, it must be true, right?). I guess it would be nice to walk into a dentist's office and ask their truthful opinion... but they all sell the treatment, so...

Oh my god, you can't drink coffee for 48 hours and I'm having a caffeine fit over here. I'm tempted to put my trays in empty to protect my teeth so I can have some!

Last time I got my teeth bleached, I had coffee through a straw.

Oh & warm not hot, obv.

EDIT: Another tip. Since you like to have your wine, avoid the red one. Get the light pink or white instead.
