Coastline is a school in California where you can take all of your lower division requirements online and pay cheaper tuition. http://www.coastline.edu/

There are several real public universities that you could then transfer to and complete coursework online. I looked into the Dietetics program at Kansas State at one point http://www.dce.ksu.edu/courses/degrees/bachelors.shtml. Becoming a registered dietitian might be a start for planning their diets. For planning workouts I would think you'd want a kineseology degree and I don't know of any online.

There are quite a few schools that offer just one or two online majors. I think Oregon State offers some. Theres more I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

I did my first two years of school online and then transfered to a highly ranked university.

I love online courses and I hope they continue to increase in popularity. I'd be hesitant to attend some of those for-profit only online universities. If the schools have an on campus counterpart usually your degree won't say "online student." Science classes might be difficult to take online though with the lab.

BTW, University of Massachusetts, Amherst is another that offers online programs that I just thought of.

EDIT: I think you got most of the good information before I edited out the super identifying details

This is a pretty complete list of schools, both good and bad, that offer online programs. Some are just going to offer AAs or Masters degrees while some offer BAs or BSs.

You'll be fine at an online school. I'm taking my MLA/Histopathology certification through distance ed and the hospitals and labs have no issue with that. Worse that'll happen is they'll want you to do a practicum before they'll issue your diploma.

Agreed. Especially if the course isn't really a strong subject for you. Even in-home chemistry and biology labs just aren't the same because the potential for screw-up is pretty good if you don't have any guidance. In nutrition/dietetics you're almost guaranteed to have to take theory courses in both those subjects.

Even better is if you can take your program from a school affiliated with one near your home so you can get tutoring if you need it.

I did almost my whole Biology undergrad via distance (incl. chem, biochem, microbio)...it's do-able, but not for everyone. You don't do the labs at home- you have to schedule your own lab sessions, at the locals unis, on your own. Or sometimes the school will offer summer or weekend intensive labs for your particular course.

You definitely have to be able to work independently and be motivated to make a go of it though. If you DO make it work, it's pretty golden.

Did you do your undergrad at UBC? I was going to do the Human Science program from Athabasca/the consortium and they said I had to do home lab kits for bio and chemistry...probably biochemistry too, and it chased me away because I'd probably fuck it up if I had to do the experiments in my own kitchen.
