    Default Working for Airlines

Has anybody(or known anybody) here ever worked as a flight attendant or for airlines?

The thing is i realized i am missing my friends and my family a lot. And i keep wanting to be in two places at once. And i think if i had a job as a stewardess i could partially solve this problem. I really don't know much about the industry of about how to apply and get a job or what training it requires. Does it allow people to make good money? Health benefit? What are the pros and cons of this work?

Theres only one thing. I have a fear of heights and a fear of something wrong going with a plane or on the plane. I wonder if i could overcome this.

I think my fears a realistic. I mean there are possibilities for things to happen anywhere. I know its far more unlikely than a car crash.

I was a flight attendant. First you'll definately have to overcome your fear of heights or you obviously won't make it. You'll learn how to handle emergencies in case one were to happen.

Going into the business just so you visit your family is the wrong reason. Unless you speak multiple languages it'll be hard to get on with the bigger airlines such as mainline Delta, United or Continental.

Airtran out of Atlanta and the express airlines will be your best bet for getting hired. The pay isn't much at first either. It'll start at 20,000 or less. My benefits with US Airways Express and United Express were okay but nothing special.

    Pros:
I loved flying, I became fascinated with aviation the first time I flew, I flew a little myself just for fun.

I liked the chaotic lifestyle, not knowing where I'd be from one minute to the next.

Flight benefits, free travel for you and your immediate family.

You obviously travel with the job and get to visit different places.

You'll usually work 4 days on 3 days off.

    Cons:
If you don't like being away from "home" for long periods of time then this is not for you.

You'll be required to stay at the base they place you at. Of course they'll try to place you at the base you request but you'll be "on-call" at first so you'll have to stay within an hours distance.

Long hours, some days can last up 16 hours, average is around 10.

That's all I can think of right now, I just woke up. You can pm me if you have more questions.

Here is a link to the airlines hiring.

I always thought being a flight attendant would be an interesting job.

I never really understood why people think they'll get to do a lot in the cities they're in. I always assumed that you'd just get on the next flight until you're done for the night go back to the hotel and sleep. Get to see a lot of airports though...ahah.

I always go back and forth about wanting to be a flight attendant. I have worked with aircraft, aircrew, and passengers for about 7 years of my life. I had an interview with United Airlines in Chicago last February and was denied as a Flight Attendant. I couldn't believe it, with all of the experience that I had. I was very confused and upset. I have recently been thinking about trying again... just because I miss being around the hustle and bustle.
