    Default Freecreditreport.com

I think I just made a dumb mistake. I just signed up with them to get my credit report, but I'm reading about all the little fees that they charge you afterwards. First thing in the morning I'm going to cancel the Triple Advantage that they automatically sign you up for (9 day trial then charge afterwards). Does anyone else know of anything else that needs to be canceled? Will they charge cancellation fees? Has anyone had any horrific experiences? Any advice on getting out of this?

You will need to get it canceled. I use transunion (directly) and paid 5 bucks and I think it's for a year or something.

It should be okay if you cancel before the free trial expires. If you are worried about it, you could call your bank and change your account number so if they try to charge you it won't go through.

How can I keep a paper trail? I'm afraid that I'll call and cancel, yet charges will keep showing up. I'm going to ask them for an email confirming that I have cancelled.

I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you cancel before your trial period is over. Their first commercial really hit home with me though. My credit is deplorable, and as I was watching it I was thinking hmmm, my future husband is going to be living in a basement with me, lol!

Do it. Anything is cheaper than paying $79.95 for snake oil. I believe the free trial is only 7 days.

In the event you need to get a truly FREE credit report (and from all three credit bureaus no less). You can do this once a year.

Another consumer hint. Never buy a useless product from an outift that spends all but the last two seconds of their TV ads advertising some bait that you CAN use with catchy songs, but makes you buy the nearly useless product that they're REALLY selling in order to take advantage of it. They only mention that two second sound bite disclaimer you can barely hear, or put size 0.25 text on the screen that you can barely read in order to cover their ass against claims of false advertising.

Freecreditreport.com has plenty of dirt on them.

    Just a heads up...
I did the same thing and when I called to tell them that I wanted to cancel, they seriously wouldn't let me cancel. It took me 20 minutes and some yelling for the woman that I was talking to to understand that I did not need nor want their services anymore. So just be prepared for them to give you a hard time about cancelling, because they tried every trick in the book on me.

It took a couple times for me to cancel, too (they cancelled, sent me a confirmation, then 2 months later charged me again) but the second time stuck. I did it online though. No real horror stories. It *was* pretty nice to get my credit score every month and know when my report might have dings on it--it actually came in handy once when I had some problems with my student loan and didn't realize it.

Mine wasn't $80, though, it was $12/mo. I see Discover offers the same thing for $8/mo.

I've used it twice now and I've never had a problem. What happened to me is I had the report e-mailed to me and as soon as I got it, I canceled everything. I made sure the representative said that everything was canceled and I wouldn't be charged. I'm uber paranoid so I would get his or her name too in case they did charge me I could say "But so and so said this".

It should be OK if you canceled it within a few days. I really believe they do that in an effort to charge people who forget or are too lazy/busy to cancel in time.

Gosh, I love triple advantage - I have it for me and my husband.

Just call them - when we were tight last year I called and cancelled and had no problems. Ive since reinstated it because I like it so much.

Hmmm, I forgot about how they charge you later on. Oh well, I ended up canceling my card anyways and ordering a new one right after I got my report.
