I read HHL's thread about quiting. (congratulations!!!!)

Which prompted me to go to WhyQuit.com that hb recommended. (congratulations to you too!!!!)

I decided to quit right on the spot.

I've been smoking since I was 13, I'm now 29. I am a mom of two beautiful children. Thier father, my ex husband, has MS. There is a strong chance he will die or be severely disabled while they are still young, leaving them one parent (me). My kids constantly ask when I'm going to stop smoking. (I don't smoke in my house) I lose valuable time with them when 'stepping out' to have a cigarette. My boyfriend of three years is a very heavy smoker and has health problems because of it: can't breath, constant congestion, etc. He wants to quit but is very dependant. If I don't smoke it would be easier for him. I am having my third breast augmentation this summer, the last one and this one are to correct complications. The doctor will not perform the surgery if I am a smoker (he nicotine tests you). He also will not compensate any further surgery needed if I test positive after initial surgery. These are my reasons for quitting.

I had a plan to quit cold turkey on New Year's Day. And I did! But at work the following thursday the bartender (owner's fiance) fucked me out of $5k (that's a story I won't get into) and seriously pissed me off. Quitting over. I tried to quit the first of this month and was doing really well. But, on ssslllooowww nights it's so HARD. That web site WhyQuit.com is very motivating.

The reason I'm posting here is because I need support. Average people can't understand what it's like being a stripper or the temptations and preasures during an average night. It's hard enough to not drink on the job which leads right to the cigarette with the drink. I once sent a message to a quit smoking group saying 'any advice, I work in a bar, it's really hard when it's all around me.' The response I got was, 'find another job, it's not worth your life'. Okay, that's not going to happen. I'm happy to be a stripper (money, flexible hours, etc. are not going to be matched). I'm reaching out to my fellow strippers for support and advice. I'm going to post my hours without a puff here.

    2 hrs so far

Thanks for the motivation High_Heel_Lover and hockeybobby.

Keep it up! You have so many very good reasons to quit.

It sucks that you live in a state where people can still smoke inside though. Even if you don't smoke, it's no good for you.

Good for you! It's hard but definately worth it. I was a pack a day smoker for ten years before I gave it up. My doctor detected a heart murmur-nothing major- but at 27, it was enough to scare the shit out of me.

I too quit while working in a smokey bar... it's hard but you can do it. I used to chew a lot of gum when I got the urge. I also forced myself to hustle dances when I was craving a smoke- I figured if I kept moving it wouldn't give me time to light up.

Hang in there and best of luck to you!
