    Default Living in my car

My parents just found out that I am NOT a waitress. I am not waiting for my dad to get home and kick my ass, so I will probably be living in my car for the next few days when I am not at the club. I should be able to save enough in a night or two to rent a cheap motel for a week while I work and find a rental.

I have $35 right now, and havent worked in a while, so even motels are not an option.

Im just wondering like, where should I park during the day to sleep? Seriously....has anyone else lived in their car? Safety measures I might forget?...

Just wondering but how old are you?

You don't have any friends you can stay with for a night or two? No one...?

I don't know too much about sleeping in cars besides in my clubs parking lot but I was fine there....wouldn't necessarily recommend that though.

I lived out of my car for a while towards the end of high school. I parked it safe residential areas at night but never directly in front of a house. It was always against the side of a house that was on the end of the street. I rolled up a blanked at wedged it up against the seatbelts so they didn't stick into my back. I hung shirts on clothes hangers up over the back windows too. I parked around 10pm at night and left around 6am. Borders or Barnes and Nobel are great places to go to kill time because they are usually open until 10 or 11pm on weekends.

Church parking lots are good too as long as it's not a night before mass.

If you've been dancing for awhile, why do you only have $35? It's a good idea to hustle your ass off for the next few days and SAVE. If you have any friends you could stay with for the time being, that would be great too.

Yeah...Im almost 19. I have a total of 3 friends, all of whom live a good 8 hour plane trip away.

OMFG...I just remembered my shitty car has no shower. This is SO rocknroll of me!

Also if you need to shower in order to go to work, just get a free pass for one of the nearby gyms and go use that shit.

I've slept in my car a couple times; just park in a nice, safe neighborhood out of sight and with the windows obstructed.

Go into work for a shift tonight, and ask everyone there if they can give you a couch to sleep on for a night, or a safe driveway to park in...use of a shower. Just a thought.

    Where are you located?

Go shower now, and head into work NOW! Work both day/nightshift. Go on craigslist and look for some temporary sublet type apartmens OR just move into ur own spot. Get an efficiency.

    You can do it!!!!

I havent been dancing long, and Ive been taking a lot of time off due to boyfriend issues. (We broke up 4 days ago and his mom told my mom about my job).

I really have no excuse. My parents were charging me rent, and I let that and my car insurance and the phone bills run up for a month, so I was in debt to them. Also, I had to buy a junker a few weeks ago as my old (much better) car was hit by a truck. I didnt work for a week after that because I was pretending to have whiplash.

Ok, I may be in the minority here but I have another idea. How about you just try to have a conversation with your parents instead of running away. You want them to treat you like an adult, you have to know ur roll.

Agreement here. Yeah it'll probably suck but it sounds like you kind of have a bit of reckoning due, based on this:

Time to face the music girly. You're an adult, own up to your mistakes. I'm not saying dancing is a mistake; in fact, the bigger mistake is NOT dancing for some dishonest reason like insurance fraud or pityparty, whatever reason you had for "pretending to have whiplash. But really, you might want to take a moment and accept the repercussions of your actions. Don't burn your bridges if you don't have to; angry parents who may still give you a place to stay versus possibly getting attacked in your runaway vehicle. Hmmm.

I don't know where you are, but have you thought of trying a youth hostel? They are usually around $15 a night, you may have to share a room with another girl. But you'll have a shower available, also most have kitchen facilities that you can use.

Also, the YWCA is in most medium and large cities. They may not charge you at all, but likely it would be about the same price as a hostel.

Are you in physical danger from your parents? If so try calling a women's shelter. They'll help you out until you can get your own place, as well.

Good luck and get thyself to the strip club and make that $$!

Ok I figure you got two options , the first one is more fun

First idea , why not make the best of it !!! You got no attachments , BF is gone , no great friends , parents are pissed , you got a car and the best job for a traveler ....girl live it up and have fun . Hit the road and see everything you ever wanted to see and whole hell of a lot you never thought would be so kool . Thats what I would do ......however

As a mom of a very strong minded little girl I must say that you still need to talk to your parents babe . Do you even know for sure what they will say ?? You need to remind them that stripping is a LEGAL profession so while they might not appreciate it for all it is , it could be worse and your not doing anything wrong .

Also you need to pay a grown up visit to this crazy bitch you ratted you out ....tell her that the lowest thing someone can do is try and ruin a family over petty spite ....and then tell her something awful about her kid , just for fun

    Keep us posted oxxo

I second the youth hostel but otherwise, don't sleep in a park. Cops go through there on a regular looking for anything. It's not worth the hassle. I lived in a car too for a bit. So as everyone else has mentioned, sleeping in residential areas is the best bet. Just don't try and make it too obvious and don't stay in the same area more than once. People tend to get weirded out quickly.

If you can, try and make it to a truck stop. There are showers there and you can sleep pretty safely. Just keep your doors locked and park where the semis are. Rest areas are the same, the larger ones have showers as well.

Most clubs do too. Just go in for a day shift and shower prior to work. If you are embarassed just say your water line broke or something. Trust me I've been there. Really no one will think twice about it.

if you live by a university with dorms... you can sleep in the lounge area of the building, just bring a book with you and make it look like you fell asleep studying. there's also showers you can use in dorms... just make yourself look like a college student... which shouldn't be too hard since you're almost 19.

or put an ad on CL for a temporary place to stay- if you don't have money, maybe you can just exchange for yard work or child care or something?

also.. if you have a tent, you could go set up camp at a nice campsite, some of them have showers and working bathrooms. I dont know if it's warm where you live, but you can get a solar shower for like 15 bucks and shower outside (in a secluded spot, of course)

i like TSK's idea of using a gym for showering and hygiene. maybe some passes or pay as you go "workout" or even maybe a parttime job there.

agreed on the hardass mom/dad comments. so they have a thing against stripping or working?

but they took the rent money from you. so they don't have any problems with the money from the stripping/working? just the work itself, huh? hmph.

Just be careful if you do this idea because in the dorm I live in, somebody would be likely to ask you who you are or call security if they don't recognise you. Sucks, but just be careful.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

If you don't look all sketchy and homeless you're probably okay at a dorm, unless it's like the one I lived in. When security did their rounds, they'd gently wake us up and send us off to bed if we dozed off over our books. It was nice for the residents, but that would kinda suck if they tried that with you and then realized you didn't actually live there.

I lived out of me car for a WHILE! Me and my friend slept in a hospital parking lot. noone bothered us. If someone does say your friend jennifer smith was in an accident and your waiting in your car cause hospitals make u sick.
We also showerd at the ymca, if you walk right in like you have a membership they will just buzz the door for you, otherwise its like 10 bucks for the day, work out, sit in the sauna, swim in the pool, and shower! cant beat it.

i also agree that if you have no attachments where you are, save up a few hundred bucks and travel the country!

When I worked at a gym, my parents kicked me out and I had nowhere to go. I went and showered at a different one of our family of gyms every day (I got in for free b/c I was an employee). Another thing to do here is CHARGE YOUR CELL PHONE! I didn't have a car charger and completely forgot about this.

Not sure if you're a member of a church, but if you are I'm sure someone there would be able to help you work something out so that you aren't sleeping in your backseat.

My dad said that when he went to the beach and slept in his car, he'd park at a 24/7 Walmart or other establishment open round the clock.
