    Default my super-cool night

I just want to do the opposite of rant here for a second and talk about the fun I had last night giving lapdance lessons at a bachelorette party.

I got recruited for this a few weeks ago by a woman who was at the club with her husband and happened to be hosting this party. I've taught yoga and taken quite a few dances classes, and I figured between all of that I could pull something together. I did have some nerves about it, because for some reason women are socially scarier to me than men.

The party was in a hotel room downtown, and the "class" ended up being pretty unstructured, with people wandering off to drink vodka on the bed and play with the obligatory penis-shaped straws and condom-jewelry. We basically did a little bit of hip-stretching and some sexy swaying back and forth and how to do the runway walk in high heels.

This is about all I know how to do, anyway. I'm not really much of a stage dancer compared to most girls at my club, but I've learned how to slink around and make eyes at people to compensate. I get complimented a lot on my walk, and the way I move, so that's what I tried to teach.

I originally told the hostess $150 for 1.5 hours, which might be a little low, but it was my first class and I wanted to see if I could pull it off. We ran a little over-time, which I told the hostess was cool, because I was having fun. But she paid me $200 anyway, and then almost all the guests tipped me extra, and I ended up making about what I would make on a slow/average night at the club.

They insisted I go out with them afterwards, paid my cover to a reeeeally nice nightclub, and bought me so many drinks I had to start turning them down. It was so cute to see them all practicing walking around sexy and swiveling their hips. I felt kinda like a mama duck with a little train of baby ducks.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my cool evening. A few of the older ladies asked about private lessons, too...I'm pretty excited. I've been looking for another source of income so I could cut down on my time at the club. Yay!!

awesome..I'm going to start doing this type of lesson program. I have an adult dance class I take (contemporary) and there is HUGE interest in this. I figure..HELL why not. I know them all, it's just females and A LOT of fun.

This is a great little extra income for you! I teach pole dance lessons in my house and it's so fun! You should post flyers around saying that you teach ladies exotic dance and maybe throw in some floor work, which is also a great work out. This stuff if so popular now, I kno you would have lots of clients! I'm glad you had fun!

I'm teaching my first burlesque class in a few weeks and I can't wait! I think this is what it'll be like. Thanks for sharing, I love hearing positive stripping stories.

I'm so glad you had a good time doing this! I've done it before and really enjoyed it but was also a little intimidated going in.

Here is a suggestion for pricing -- you can have the base rate, or you can charge $XX per person with a X person minimum - that's a way to break it down so that you don't feel like the number you're presenting is too high, and yet get the same hourly rate you'd get for a bachelor party.

Yeah, I think I'm going to do this... maybe get a few business cards printed and put an ad in the alternative weekly paper here. I would really like to get this going...

That's a really good idea. And I don't have to get rich doing this... it would just be great if it would let me cut down on my nights at the club. I actually woke up the next morning feeling good, with lots of energy. When I work at the club, I usually wake up the next morning exhausted and cranky.

Mama and baby ducks! Cute! I was wondering how this was going to go after you posted about it before, it sounds like it was great!

That's sounds fun. Women are socially scarier than men, so it's cool that it worked out for you. I bet you'll get other clients too by word of mouth from the ladies you taught in this class. Yay! (If you are planning on teaching a pole class in your home you might want to do some research on the legal stuff-liability for injury, business regulations and zoning, etc)

^^Good thinking. I'm definitely not going to be teaching pole, though, as I'm not a very good pole dancer myself. I don't think I'm going to teach out of my place, either...it's so small.

I always carried insurance as a yoga teacher, though, because you never know...wonder if that's a good idea in this case, too. Hmmmm...

^Grace, mind if I asked how much you paid for insurance during your yoga gig? Was it a general professional liability package, or something more tailored to what you did?

Great point. Depending on how much you get into this as your business, I wonder about forming an LLC as a layer of protection. Also, in time, you might have people sign something along the lines of an informed consent about risks of injury, etc.
