You know when you get a facial (or, in my case, laser resurfacing) and then you break out? People (professionals and not) always say that it's because it's "bringing it all to the surface". What does that really mean? I've always been too polite to ask them exactly wtf they're talking about. The last time I had a facial, I broke out like crazy! I could go a year and not have that many blemishes. So, what exactly is this "bringing it all to the surface" stuff... how long does that "all" last down there, anyways? It seems like it should be pretty straightforward, right? Stuff goes out of pores until pores are blocked (or otherwise fucked with) and then pores get infected. Where does this "stuff" live?
I finally brought myself to post this question when I got all these little white heads from the laser treatment. The nurse's first response was the "bringing it all to the surface" one. Then, she told me that they weren't really blemishes but... yadda yadda yadda. I felt like her first response was just something that they tell people because they're used to hearing it from their facialists.
So yea, this phrase, I need it explained to me.![]()

Maybe if treatments are done on a regular basis, it would keep follicles clear and minimize breakouts while still expelling all the crap. Obviously you're not going to have laser on a regular basis. Maybe keep up with regular facials or incorporate a topical retinoid to help keep everything unblocked?
