so...I  techno. Almost any and all techno, the harder the better. I like to dance to music that will turn the club into a rave for ten minutes.
I'm not a huge bitch to work with though...if there's a good reason why I occasionally need to dance to something else (like if 90% of the girls working are techno girls and the DJ wants to mix it up), then I'll be a good sport and do it without complaining.
All I ask is that if you're going to make me go outside my genre, then just give me a heads-up and ask me what kind of other stuff I wouldn't mind dancing to. I can rattle off a bunch of rock/R&B/other songs that I don't hate, and you can pick two of them, and everyone's happy.
Instead, the DJ last night let the waitresses pick my music.![]()
He knows the deal--that I'm a techno girl, but that in a pinch I'll willingly dance to rock, R&B, Latin...ANYTHING BUT POP.I hate, hate, HATE pop music (if you can even call that shit "music".) And he knows this. I'm also a generous tipper, and he knows this too.
But for some reason he let the waitresses pick out the most horrible crap for my sets...Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls...I was dying up there. I felt SO stupid. Then afterward he was laughing about it and said "well, they really wanted to hear it".
WTF? I don't give a damn what the waitresses want to hear. If they want to listen to stupid pop crap, they can switch to being dancers and play it for their own sets. Or listen to it in their cars on the way home. The waitresses don't tip you, I do. So how about asking ME what I want to dance to instead? Have a spine and tell them no!
DJ's: is it just me, or is that rude as hell? Would you ever let a waitress pick out dancers' stage sets? (I wasn't the only one who got waitress requests played for them.) And on top of that, letting them pick out the one genre that I hate, knowing that I hate it and playing it anyway? There are a zillion acceptable things he could have played for me. I don't like dancing to anything but techno, but if he played me rock or R&B or whatever, I'd suck it up, dance to it without complaining, and act like I'm enjoying it. I'm one of the better tippers, and one of the least demanding. I'm willing to work with the DJs as far as getting a good mix of music going, and the ONE request I have is no pop. Is that really too much to ask?
Sorry, but I gave him the infamous minimum last night.

I know you'd give me all the amazing techno I could handle and then some!
)....I personally would never dream of messin' with a dancer that has done nothing wrong. It should not be a problem to take requests from dancers (unless club or mngmt. "policies" interfere) as long as they "appreciate" it. The only thing I know to tell you is to speak directly and honestly with said Dj about your issue. Alot of dancers "screw" us on our tips regardless of how bad or good we are....hence this action does not always have the desired effect the dancer wants. Talk to him...if this doesn't work then there are "escalating" measures to deal with said button pusher
