I never understood why people get so ridiculous about music.. competitive.. territorial.. superior.. its so weird. I like what I like at any given moment, and everyone else can go collectively f themselves if they have an opinion about it
Obscure.. mainstream.. whatever. Who cares! Music should make you move.. elicit some emotion.. bring back memories.. create memories..
Hey, I love Coldplay.. don't care who knows it.. the opening to "Clocks" still gives me goosebumps..
Hey, I still rock out to that damnably stupid Fergie "Glamorous" song..
Hey, I liked Green Day before and after they "sold out".. whatever that means.
Hey, I still think Metallica's Black album was their best..
Hey, I like bands that typical radio listeners might not have heard of.. but I don't begrudge anyone who hasn't heard of Cold War Kids or Fugazi or Acroma or whatever.
Except anyone who listens to Creed or Evanescence. Those people should be dragged behind a truck.
(Yes I'm kidding.)

Anyway, used to be a fun thread! I was getting a lot of good ideas for bands to check out there for a while.. oh well.

I like all sorts of things, too. I wasn't attempting to infer my musical kung-fu was greater or anything of the sort. I was drunk, and it just seemed like it had turned into "Look how many obscure bands I can mention" type of thing, and I was making fun of that. So...it wasn't intended to come off as confrontational or superior or whatever. Post away, folks.

1. b52's.... hated them in College because my neighbor played them to DEATH. Then I sorta just stumbled upon their older stuff and found it amazing. It's campy but I think that's what makes it awesome.
2. When in rome
3. Handsome boy modeling school
4. Stabbing westward
5. Cancer bats

im gonna be selfish and say none. i like a lot of obscure bands, and it pays off. cheap shows at small venues where i can actually talk to the band, buy their merch dance around and have a great time without fighting huge crowds high ticket prices and low chance of getting to talk to the band members.

Hopefully you know I wasn't talking about you at all MrC.. your stuff is tongue in cheek.. and I certainly don't mind playful good-humored jabs.. shit, makes things more fun. More fun is more gooder, I always say. Its the stuff that started looking really angry and serious that caused me to say something. I think it might have drifted over from another thread in this forum that suddenly got heated and ugly for no apparent reason.
And I was speaking generically, cuz I've seen people nearly get in fistfights over this sort of thing.. and it never made any sense to me. Huh. People. Go figger.

lol tsk tsk. I totally agree though. I like being able to afford the merch! On a side note it's always awesome when rather large bands that go mainstream branch off and do side projects that arent' too heard of. Give you a chance to get to know different aspects that make up the band.

i should get into the music buisness becuase i swear everytime i start liking a new band they go mainstream in like 3-6 months. i find it quite wierd. then i have the oh i saw them back when conversations and people think im a music snob lol.
i blame myspace for the bulk of my favorite obscure bands.

I love LOVE going on myspace, going to the music section...and finding the bands that are on page 23039 and have 10 downloads. Just because I'm curious as to who's doing what and where they are from etc. Usually they are kids in highschool and I back doing something besides bullying! Plus it's always fun to go to the shows and help them pay for tour (if I'm into the music) I have friends that are in small hardcore bands that spend so much in design and gas ..van maintance. I know how much it means to just have someone pay to get through the door and buy some merch.
I also scour myspace music for the truly awful electro or folk. I mean the REAL bad stuff where you cringe and go ..wtf.
Oh but I found doing that a small circle of people here that are into creating experimental noise. Finding that was awesome, because when you go to these shows it's nothing but weirdos and awesomeness. It's almost like going to an improv theater but with keyboards and a cowbell
Examples:
Gays in the military
and insectoid
I dunno something about people running around in bloody clown masks does it for me.
PS I love Anthony and the Johnsons

*Sighs* Come to Denver! I swear to god I'm going to a tour farewell gig everyother week! I'm actually noticed the other day that almost EVERY SINGLE band from the Marquis scene has either already left on tour or is leaving in the next two weeks. The only exception is The Axe That Chopped The Cherry Tree cause the Chain Gang stole their drummer so theyre sorta screwed.
I blame The Fray for opening it all up...furthermore, I appologise for The Fray having ever left Denver.
Dude...Watch this...My Faves:
1. Cooler Than You
2. Emo As Fuck
3.You'll Never Hear Of Us
4. Shh, Don't Tell Your Friends.

Holy thread cleansing.
I found 4 Breathe Carolina songs, but haven't listened to them yet.
And...uh, I guess whatever everyone else likes, I hereby approve of. In fact, I love it all.

^I saw Gene Loves Jezebel & The Mission together a few years ago, and it was a really good show. Wayne Hussey looks like an English professor now, though.
