Default Fell down a flight of stairs sleep walking

Anyone have advice on what to do about sleep walking? I just started it again a few months ago and although it isn't a regular thing, I think it's getting worse.
I recently moved and don't know my whole partment just yet. Last night I fell down my wood stairs and hurt myself pretty badly. I ripped up one knee, have insane bruises down the other shin and my toe is mildly sprained and has a scary gash in it. Working a twelve hour shift tomorrow is going to be a nightmare.
I have woken up eating the weirdest things, have poked a nail in my ear, run away from the monkey/cat that was after me three nights in a row. Craziness.
Other than putting up a baby gate at the top of the stairs, I really don't know what to do. My guy never hears me get up from the bed, and he and our house guest didn't even hear me fall down the 20 plus stairs. I must not have screamed, but for some reason I remember calling out.
This has me worried and I can't really find any advice online. I know it's due to stress, but how to de-stress is beyond me.
    Anyone know anything?

maybe sou should get a door lock to you bedroom and add extra locks to the front door to make it harder? I dont know how capable sleep walkers are though. Sorry u got hurt!

oh, I am REAL good, when I was younger my parents would find me in the basement heading out the door, a door with a bunch of crazy locks that stuck. I think the only reason I fell was because I am not used to the apartment yet. I'm almost glad I fell because I don't know where I was heading (the front door is at the foot of the stairs.)
I think maybe I will have my boy friend put on new locks and have him lcok the doors at night instead of me doing it. I just worry that I might really really hurt myself.

Maybe also put an obstacle course inside in front of the door.

I think that's actually how I fell so hard (I have a shoe rack on the middle of the stairs (they curve to the side.)
I just hope the baby gate works and doesn't send me falling. I think I will put on on the back porch too. Now, those are a lot of stairs.
I just need to stop stressing. Heh, if only it was that easy.

No, but maybe I should. That's what I was looking at online, but I don't see any "cures" or treatments.

^it might not be just stress. You have the potential to be seriously injured (even more so than you already have). I think you should see a medical professional.

yeah, I guess I should. In the past it was more of a joke like if I watched a scary movie and since scary movies have been out for a while, I guess I need to take it seriously. And hide the knives (I'm serious about that one.)
Now, to find a doctor in the area that knows something about this.

Do you have a regular doctor that you see for routine stuff? If you do, that might be the best place to start as they can refer you as necessary.

    Wow thats scary.

I was thinking to put a lock on the door with a key. Have the boyfriend lock you in and put the key somewhere without you knowing where it is. But then I think what if there was a fire or something....

Hopefully the doc works out. Im sure theres a cure. You cant be the only person this has happened to!

I sleep walk too, alot and especially when i am stressed or in a new situation. Have you tried melatonin? I usually take 2 before bed and am so knocked out i don't sleepwalk. I'm luckyb/c my husband is a light sleeper, if i get, up to pee or get a drink he's like "Hey! what r u doing?!" lol, i have been known to go out in the yard sans clothes among other things.

There is not a cure or sleepwalking/talking. You can try therapy or hypnosis, but there is no magic pill or anything. I have been doing it since birth. Doctor's recommended advil before bed and that never worked. My best advice is to get really tired before bed and try to resolve any issues you have before sleeping, destress.

That would be unhealthy to take every day

^^^ It actually is not good to take unnecessary medicine. Advil and other medicines used every day for extended long amounts of time can have bad side effects on you body.

    That's true^^ but 2 a day doesnt do crap.

and if it worked it would be neccessary, but i digress as like i said it did not work anyways.

You would need to take alot more than 2 a day longterm before it hurt your stomach.
