    Default Vitamins to improve skin?

I have been searching the internet recently for info about vitamins. I currently take none... which is probably bad. On top of that, my skin is shit. Always has been to some degree or another. I've tried everything topically available so I turned to something to help from the inside. I found a bunch of info that pretty much stated the same group of vitamins to help keep your skin healthy:

    Vitamin A: 10,000 IU 1 x a day
    Vitamin C with Bioflavanoids: 1,000mg 3 x a day
    Vitamin E: 400 IU 1 x a day
    Vitamin B Complex: 3 x a day
    Niacin: 100mg 1 x a day
    Zinc: 50mg 1 x a day
    Chromium Picolinate: 200mg 1 x a day

All of these things have supposed benefits for your body, skin and oil producing glands.

Has anyone turned to vitamins as a treatment for their skin? Are there any other supplements or natural things I should be taking in general? Any experience on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Chromium Picolinate for sure had a huge impact on muscle maintenance and weight loss for me. It works best of course with a good diet. Back in July 07 I wanted to lose some extra pounds I took 800mg of that and the pounds started to melt off. Did 2 days of cardio and 3 days of weight training (easy) plus that made me lose about 2lbs a week.

Vitamin C also as a cream works really well. Its brightens and soothes.

I don't know too much about the other vitamins.

It's best to at least take a multi-vitamin daily. Biotin too.

I took Vitamin A and that helped my skin a bit. I didn't take it for very long though, so it'd probably be more effective if you kept up with it.

Vitamin E is good for your skin. I understand coconut oil is good for the hair and skin. I use to take it for immunity, my skin has been in good shape for a while now. I think it would be more helpful for dry skin. You can get it in pill form at GNC.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I am definitely going to get started with a nice group of these vitamins. Hopefully I will see a result... I'm sick of always coming back to the same place I started. Ugh. My stupid face.

Also, what you don't eat affects your skin too. Cutting out junk, processed foods and replacing them with whole grains, fruits, and veggies helps too.

Ooh! Pre-natal vitamins? Cool. I'll try that.

As far as diet goes, I've always eaten healthy. Soy protein, mainly organic foods and produce. I'm a health nut. Thats why I am so frustrated, the more I try to shift my already healthy diet... I still see no change.

I took Kinerase multi-vitamins for a little while. Not long enough to see any major changes in my skin but it did make my skin a lot softer and it looked a little smoother after a month. They're about $135 but I'd look on ebay. There are lot of pills daily(about 9 total day/night) so I don't think you have to mix them with anything else. Probably not a good idea because when I tried mixing I started peeing oil.

Maybe you should try using all natural beauty products like pure cocoa/shea butter and handmade soap as long as taking supplements and drinking a lot of water.

If you have a steam room at your gym it'll help a ton too. It cleanses your pores almost like a body facial.

I noticed the biggest change in my skin condition when I started to go more paleolithic in my diet. Dietary fats are also very important to maintain a beautiful complexion. Retin A doesn't hurt either! And castor oil as an after shower moiturizer (or coconut) is the bomb.

You already take Vitamin A, have you tried Cod Liver Oil? That form of A is more readily absorbed (because it's food).

I might be imagining it, but I think MSM supplements have helped my skin a bit. They are supposed to be especially good for hair, skin and nails, among other things.

Drinking nothing but lots and lots of water throughout the day has always worked for me.

I also want to start taking Vitamin E tablets.

You're no imagining it. MSM rocks! Especially if you take some silica too.

    All great suggestions here.

IN addition to water, green tea has a lot of antioxidants.

Vitmins C, E, and folic acid are great.

I like the prenatal vitamin suggestion.

My gym has a steam bath and I love it!

And moisturize with a vitamin C plus spf lotion.

And don't smoke or lay out in the sun.

These are the exact ones I was going to suggest, except I was going to say B complex which has a plethora of B's. Also I wanted to ask what exactly are you wanting to fix about your skin?

What to Look for in a Skin Supplement (What Ingredients REALLY Make a
    Difference in Your Skin)

    1.)DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol

This natural compound, found naturally in the skin of fish (especially wild salmon)is known for
providing excellent collagen support to the outermost layers of skin (the most important since this is
what shows on the surface!). The results are tighter, firmer skin and a great reduction in fine lines
and wrinkles. It also is known for helping to reduce age spots (liver spots), and is a well known
memory and concentration enhancer. It can be taken as an oral supplement and applied topically
to the skin. A good skin care regimen which contains both DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid is the
    Revitol complete skin smoothing system.

    2.)Alpha Lipoic Acid

This natural acid is a very potent antioxidant that eliminates free radicals, one of the primary factors
in the aging of skin and breakdown of skin elasticity. When applied externally and taken internally
as a skin supplement, it can dramatically improve skin's appearance within a matter of just a few
    weeks.

    3.)Vitamin C

Well, Vitamin C truly is the miracle cure vitamin! Topical Vitamin C protects the skin from sun
damage, and even helps reverse the effects of photodamage (sun damage) on the skin. It protects
from sun damage(in conjunction with a sunscreen of course), by neutralizing free radicals. Vitamin
C is actually the only antioxidant that is proven to increase the production and synthesis of collagen.
Vitamin C is an absolute must-have in your skin care regimen regardless of your skin type. We
recommend you take an oral Vitamin C supplement, as well as apply a topical vitamin C serum or
something that contains pure vitamin C.

    4.)Retinol

Retinol is a natural form of vitamin A. It helps the skin regenerate and rejuvenate in a healthy
manner and is especially effective on sensitive skin since it does not cause redness or peeling.

    ------------------------------

Using a combination of these four very effective natural skin care products, you can't help but see
a noticeable difference in your skin. Don't be surprised if you suddenly start receiving complements
like "have you been on vacation?", or "wow - what are you using on your skin?". This stuff is that
good. Give it a few weeks, you'll see a huge improvement.

What is silica specifically supposed to do, if you don't mind me asking? Is is even more beneficial to take it with the MSM?

In general, I wanted to start vitamins for basic health benefits. As an added bonus, hopefully, I want to find something to help with my acne and skin in general. I've always had acne in varying degrees of 'awful'... so I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Best thing I've found to prevent acne is milk thistle -- it basically causes your liver to work more efficiently -- take more of it when you drink. I find the Trader Joe's brand is best (I tried Swanson and got more acne than when I was taking the TJs brand, so switched back.) When your body's hormones are processed inefficiently by the liver they contribute to irritating sebum. So when the liver works more smoothly, you get less acne!
