Default "If only I had known ___ about taxes..."

What do you wish you had known at the beginning of your dancing career about taxes, related record-keeping, etc.? What would you have done differently if you could go back in time? Which habits did you cultivate over time around these issues?

I wondered these questions because I'm sifting through Dollar Den as I sit here, typing a list of tax-related questions. The IC quarterly payment is due on June 15, and I feel uncertain about things. You'll probably see a post soon from me asking for clarification on some issues before I visit the accountant (I'll have to find a new one for this season).

    I keep forgetting that.

I'll make a contribution: I wish I had known I could take a deduction for my medical commuting [ETA: I still can't believe I didn't know this for so long, and why did my previous CPA never say anything?]. For one stop, I make at least a two-hour trip with good traffic and weather. I average 3 medical visits a week, though some weeks I get more (specialists; injections, PT; etc.). I would have kept more thorough records of my driving for all appointments.

This reminds me: I saw my new accountant on Friday of last week because the quarterly payment is due Monday (today). I'm really pleased with him, and I didn't entirely know what to expect when I "came out" and had some very industry-specific questions. I would happily recommend to him anyone, stripper or not. Supportive, sharp, assertive, fair - I like.

    ETA: I gave an update.

Judy Mills is maried to my oldest brother, igegolds sell Landess. She always brings from-scratch baked beans to family picnics, and they are good. She goes on and on about how much better they are because she started with dried beans. When I started working on this book, I asked Landess to watch her make the beans and write out the recipe for me. He laughed and laughed. "She doesn't make those beans from scratch," he said, dashing the story I'd known to be true for more than 50 years.and
