    Default Self-tanning question

I searched for an answer to this but couldn't find anything. I'm pale as a ghost, and I'm thinking about using self tanner for the first time. From what I've read on here, it seems that a gradual tanner (such as Jergens or Loreal,) would be my best bet. But I was wondering, what do you ladies do about the parts you can't reach, like your back? And what's the best way to keep it from streaking?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I'm a total self-tanning virgin.

Exfoliate before you start. I dont like the use of loofahs for exfoliating because they can leave little scratches that the tan will adhere to more. Just use body wash with a regular face washer and scrub your whole body with it.

Then when you are dry use the tanner. I dont recommend the gradual ones personally as they dont provide much colour. I am very pale naturally but I can use any tanner on the market without getting streaks. Get one with a tint so that u can see where you have put it. I recommend st tropez - mousse, it's excellent and dries quickly and smells pleasant. I also love ella bache great tan mousse.

If you don't use rubber gloves to apply then make sure u wash your palms thoroughly so you don't get orange palms.

wait about 10 minutes before getting dressed. don't do anything strenuous after applying or u may go streaky. i use mine before bed. then when u shower the next day some of the tint will wash away and u will be left with the tan. you can reapply for a darker colour.

As for my back, I either get my boyfriend to do it or if he is not around I can reach my back coz i'm pretty flexible. but as it's your first time it would be good if someone can do your back for you.

The only way I can my back done is with the help of my boyfriend.. sometimes he's not around too and I end up looking pretty silly.

I'm thinking about trying mystic tan, it seems so much easier.

Hmmm, yeah I was thinking about asking my bf. We have very diff. schedules, though, so he'd only be able to reapply maybe once or twice a week. I guess that would be enough.

Jaizene, thanks so much for the tips. The reason I want a gradual one is because I think it would be pretty obvious if I went from looking like Casper to being all bronzey, and I'm going for a natural sunkissed look more than super tan. But I'll definitely put your advice to work.

something extremely helpful - if you have a "whoops" with self tanner, it *can* actually be scrubbed/washed off with laundry detergent. when I accidentally orange-coat my hands, it helps.... a lot.

I'm extremely pale and get my best results from the Loreal Sublime Bronze. I'd skip the Jergens and gradual stuff and go straight for the regular. Its really not that deep. I actually use the medium color too. One coat is nice, casual tan and two is a deep tan on me. I also find that it comes off less if you ever do a show that involves shaving cream, which tends to strip color off quickly.

I use Bath and Body Works self tanner. I exfoliate beforehand and it all comes out pretty easy....about the back - I don't know what to say because I'm lucky and can reach all parts of my back Get someone else to do it for you.

If you don't have an available SO and can't reach your back, go to Home Depot and buy a sponge brush with a long handle. That'll work perfectly.
