    Default I'm a vegetarian!

I was a vegetarian for a grand total of a month about 2 years ago. I'm giving it another go. I really don't like meat, I'm really weird about it and won't eat it if it has a funny shape. I think the reason I had so much trouble before was because I was running out of stuff to eat, salads got old real quick. This time, I'm going to actually cook and look into recipes. I started yesterday (not on purpose, just happened to not eat any meat) and I'm about to go to the store to officially start! Wish me luck!!

Where do you get quorn? I've never heard of it, just the usual morningstar farms stuff. Do you take any supplements?

^ I know, that's not all there is to eat. I just didn't have much time to cook before and was pretty lazy about it.

ah, ok, well, the fastest easiest thing is noodles and cheese. gouda is good with noodles.. with a little salt.

It's at the good HEB's, the ones that have lots of organics and healthy food sections. Morningstar chick'n' is pretty nasty, this stuff is waaaaaay better.

What's a HEB? I've been looking for Quorn forever and can't find it anywhere.

I've only really seen HEB in Texas. Is it elsewhere?

I have a couple veg recipes that my family likes and we're not vegetarians.

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cottage...st/Detail.aspx
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Orange-...ry/Detail.aspx
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Tofu-Pa...na/Detail.aspx

I double the sauce on the orange tofu, and with the tofu parmigiana I bake it instead of frying it.

My kids didn't even know that the meatloaf wasn't really meatloaf, so it's pretty good. I hope these help a bit.

I've been veg. for 3 years, and this site has been my bible:http://vegweb.com

Also, try exploring different regional foods. I never ate Indian or Mediterranean before becoming a veg., and now they're my favorite. Lots of veg. options in both.

    Good luck!

    I've been vegan for years....

Be VERY CAREFUL that you don't carb and dairy yourself out: you will get nowhere with the weight thing. Many vegetarians I know are nothing but junk-food ones,...cheese, bread, cheese, pasta, rice, potatoes, pizza....focus your whole diet on fruits, veggies, nuts, and some grains and beans and you'll be fine.

Quorn is at Whole foods too. That's where I got mine. I bought it like a week ago and haven't gotten to it yet :/
I really like tempeh and there's a lot of great recipes out there. One of my favs is mulitgrain spaghetti and break the temped up into the sauce while you heat it. You can make a lot (whole jar and whole box) and refirgerate for a good amount of time. mmmm soo good
Also, 1 cup of BBQ sauce heated with the tempeh. In a diff. skillet pan saute 1 onion, and 1 red and 1 green pepper with alittle olive oil. When the onions are brown mix in the BBQ sauce tempeh mixture. The reciped calls for serving on a bun like manwich...but I like to serve over pepperidge farms low carb bread. I'm trying to lower the carbs as much as possible.
For a quick meal, soy bologna with some nayonaise (very good tasting) wrapped in lettuce. Super low cal and fast. Other simple options are sugar free preserves and natural peanut butter on low carb bread. I love veggies too and fresh fruits.
Oh yeah (sry new to the veggie thing too , so learning lots of great things). The best thing in the AM is 1/2 cup Kefir served with 1/2C granola. I like to add a little vanilla as well. Whole foods has bulk granola and there is a low sugar Acai berry one that is BANGIN'!!!!!

Assuming not vegan: Everyone says cheese will make you fat, but I always seem to lose weight when I eat more cheese. It cuts down my sugar cravings for some reason. YMMV.

I recently began to eat Veggie. I still eat fish, and will have a cheat meal once a month. This keeps me from breaking down completely and still enjoy old favorites.

That's great that you're giving it a try again

This site can be helpful for people who want to ask questions of other veggies - http://www.veggieboards.com

Keep in mind that almost any recipe you like can be made in a veg (even vegan) version. It's becoming easier and easier for people to be veg the past few years - so many new products and easy substitutions.

I eat lots of whole-grain rice and beans, I get low-sodium canned black bean from wHole in my Pocket foods (fuckers have me by my wallet...) and I get the microwave brown rice bags, forget who makes em.

Heat the bag up, heat the beans up, throw some veggies in there (tomatoes, peas, whatever) and you have a complete protein combination, plus veggies, and it's eeaaasssy, quick, and cheap as hell.
