Thumbs up Bodyboarding is my new workout

I'm usually afraid of the ocean because its so unpredictable. There are jellyfish, sharks, and rogue waves.

I tried it for the first time yesterday and loved it! Rented the suit and board and just got in. I caught lots of waves and had lots of fun. Did end up getting seawater in my sinuses but ok now.

It was tiring lemme tell you. The rip current was strong and the waves are so different every time. Walking out to the waves was the hardest. The ocean pulls you back. The paddling, the kicking, diving under waves..I'm all nice and sore today.

If anyone BBs could you share any personal tips for this novice?

That's awesome you found a workout you like that's a part of nature! Sorry, no tips, cuz I don't have a clue how to do it myself.

I'm stupid, I thought it said bodybuilding not bodyboarding. :duh:

No good advice, but that sounds fun and I'm glad you found something you like!

the only advice is when you get the top of the wave pull up your front of the board, you go faster, and if you lean the front left or right you can zig zag and sometimes youll get lucky enough to be in a wave tunnel.

I can't get my head wet or anything because I can't get water in my ear, so everything I do water wise is kindda surrounded by that main concern, but I've always pushed down on my board once you catch a wave and make sure you keep your body stiff.

I don't know about diving into waves or stuff like that because I can't do it but that seems like the way most people go out there (I just run back like a loser...ahah).

BB-ing is a fricken blast! Skim boarding is fun too, in a omg I gonna bust my ass kind of way.

I would just buy a board. They should only be like 10/15 bucks.

I thought bodyboarding was without a board and boogieboarding is what I think you're talking about?

I friggin LOVE BOOGIEBOARDING!!! OMG! When you have to go over the breakers (to get to the good stuff), you can go over or under. I've never mastered the under, so I just fling myself as high as I can go and lift my board above the break.

When you catch one, keep the front lip lifted so that you don't dive under.

If the waves are crazy when you're out one day and they hold you down, try not to panic. Hold your breath and you'll rise to the surface.

You'd better invite me next time!

I think boogieboarding and bodyboarding are interchangeable terms. I plan to get out at least next sunday or something. The water was 63F and I wore a spring suit cuz I'm a baby when it comes to cold.

For sure TSK and Bella we should go out soon. We'll be the hottest chics with body boards.

they actually do have the more adult well made boards. mine was 45, they are supposed to come to your hip when stood on end so they make different lengths

Awwww....I used to love bodyboarding back when I lived in California. I had a pretty good quality board. That is one thing I miss about Cali, playing in the ocean. I always wore fins when I went and I don't think you mentioned that. Make sure you invest in a high quality rash guard and have fun . I am so jealous!

Hahaha...yeah I ate sand quite a bit . I took a really mean tumble at Seal Beach once. I cut so cut up from the rocks in the sand. I guess I have really sensitive skin because I always had to wear an extra thick rash guard to protect the girls.
